Why did our ABS light come on and the engine shut down??? We took it to a service center and they did a computer scan but could not find the reason for the problem. In 2003 I had a similiar situation in which the engine shut down and said that there was an ABS problem. I called on-star and they said that similar GMC had had the same symptom. The problem disappreared but come back to hunt us several years later. It is quite frightening to have your truck shut down while driving. Help!!!!

This means there is a problem with the trac and abs system. the way it works is that when the computer sees a problem with the abs or trac system it turns them both off. also if the check engine light is turnned on due to a problem the computer shuts down the trac and abs system as well due to the computer not being able to control the trac or abs system when there is a engine problem.

The first step here would be to have the computer scanned and get any stored codes out to find out where the problem is. Have the computer scanned for codes first.

The trac off light is on due to the engine light, the trac system is shut down whenever the engine light is on due to the reason that the trac system can not operate correctly if the engine is not operating correctly so inturn the computer shuts down the trac. the engine light is on due to a problem you will need to have the computer scanned for codes. the computer will turn the engine light on and store a code of what it sees as a problem, the computer is always scanning and watching the engines operating system and when it detects something wrong it stores the code or codes and turns on the light, you will need to go and read the codes, there are many autopart stores that will scan it and give you a readout of the codes for free. get the codes and i will help you futher. good day.

The ESP light will come on whenever the abs light is on, this is due to the ESP system cant operate if the abs system is not working.The first thing you will have to do is scan the computer for codes. the computer will store a code whenever it sees a problem and then turn on the light to warn you theres a problem and then shuts down the abs system, there are many auto part stores that scan check engine lights for free as far as the abs system i am not sure you will have to check. the codes will tell you what part of the system has failed. for example there may be a code like C 1201 left front wheel speed sensor, this code will tell you theres a problem with the left frt sensor, it may be the sensor or the wiring or connector but with a little testing the problem can be repaired. the only thing is the esp and the abs are shut down, the car can still be driven you just wont have the abs. good luck and i hope this is helpful.

The main reasons why an ABS light is on is from the wheel sensors being dirty or needing to be replaced, each sensor cost approx. $49.00-$149.00 without labor. Cleaning them should cost about $50.00+.
if the wheel sensors test good(there are 4 sensors, one each wheel) the trouble may be in the BCM(Body Control Module) this would be a costly part approx. $400.00 used up to $1,000.00 new.

These are differnt issues. The Trac off light is on because the ABS is on most common reason is because of a bad abs sensor which is part of the wheel bearing unless there is any damaged wiring.Your check engine light is on for another reason there could be many possibilities.The turn signals may be the hazard switch or turn signal switch. You should take to a repair facility that has a scan tool to tell you what are causing the abs and engine lights to come on.

THE SERVICE SOON LIGHT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT. MINES ARE ALSO ON AS WE SPEAK . I THINK I NEED TO SERVICE MY ABS BRAKES. WHEN YOU PUT YOUR CAR ON THE SCAN IT SCAN ENGINE CODES

those lights come on when the system is shut down by the computer. You have to scan the abs system. It is usually one of the sensors. I have seen many of the front wheel bearings being the problem because the sensor is built in and when the bearing goes bad.

The ABS and Traction control both work off the abs system .

Might have a front wheel bearing going out take it to a shop they can hook up a computer and tell you which bearing it is

ABS light is on & Trac off light is on. Transmission does not seem to be shifting with any problem. What should I look for?
