I am having a problem with my 2003 Silhouette's wipers. The wipers when I turned them on dragged across the window very slowly, and went down very slowly. Then, they wouldn't go back up, then finally went up and down again in the same pattern. As they went across the windshield a 3rd time they just stopped completely. Finally, they went back down. My husband looked things over and checked for power to all the prongs in the plug that attaches to the motor, that was fine. He figured it must be the motor, so we replaced it. It is still acting that way. We tried to make sure they were in proper aligment after installing..but they are still not working. The underside of the wiper transmission looks like where it attaches to the part of the motor where the fine teeth are almost looks like it is more smooth than has grooves to line up with the grooves on the part of the motor it attaches to. Could the transmission be the problem or are we looking at a different problem?

there are little teeth on the connection if they are worn then you need to find out hoe to replce them

I have the same issue, and just did it yesterday.
1. remove the rear hatch door handle with a T35 star screwdriver bit
2. gently pry the panel up exposing the two bottom plastic push fasteners
3. I used a flat prybar with the notch on the fastener and pryed both off
(the push fastener has 2 washers on the top end so get the pry bar under the top one)
4. Now pull the panel off the side door latches and gently pull down again to expose the two back push fasteners and pry them off too.
You now should be able to remove the motor. The wiring harness comes off easily after you figured out that the only the small end closest to the wires comes off, not the whole "box". Insert the small blade of a jacknife crosswise in the space on top of the connector and pry up the tab letting the fasterner slip off.
I found a motor on the net for about $80 (part number1880686) but it currently is out of stock so I have to wait a couple of weeks to finish. I put the panel back on without the push fasteners and will wait the 2 weeks. Buick dealer wanted $320.
Good Luck

Check the plug is completely plugged into the motor. Maybe a bad connection in the motor itself. Also check the switch, try wiggling it when turning on.

You can replace the nut with a locking style nut. Your local hardware store should be able to provide you with one.
You can also purchace a small tube of "lock-tight" (brand name) that you apply to the threads then tighten the nut. Once the lock tight has dried, the nut will not come loose.
Good luck.

I have had the same problem. I took to dealer as I was under extended warranty. They repaired. Several months later, driver side wiper stopped entirely. They repaired again. Now passenger side wiper going beyond edge of windshield and now inoperable. Taking to get fixed again tomorrow.
Oh brother!!!! I'm ready to trade in.
