AUTOMATIC 2002 Isuzu Rodeo LS v6 3.2L: While changing the transmission fluid under the car... Using tubing to add the new fluid; the fluid pour right back out of the fill hole when the tube is removed. Should the car be running while the fluid is being changed? It is definitely the 'fill' hole and not the 'drain' hole that the fluid is being put in to. How is the fluid supposed to stay in?

Locate the transmission resovioure, put a pan under it, uncap the bottom first, then the top. Let fluid drain. You can flush with running water from a hose or a gallon jug filled with water. Then flush with a new bottle of fluid by just putting it in there and letting it drain. Then cap the bottom, pour in the new Bottle of fluid and cap it off. You're done.
If it an automatic, the transmission fluid is poured down the transmission dip stick tube. If it is a manual transmission, there is an inspection plug on the side of the transmission. The fluid level is normally added to the top of the inspection plug hole.
Either way, you should get a repair manual from an autoparts store and read up the routine maintenance which will cover fluid checking.
Through the tube that the transmission dipstick is. Use an elongated funnel to add transmission fluid. Monitor the fluid level. Loss of transmission fluid could lead to major problems.
As far as I have found the 02 Isuzu Rodeo does not have a transmission fluid dipstick you have to in fact go under your vehicle to check, change and fill your transmission fluid.
Transmission fluid level: You will have two plugs facing downward on the larger trans pan. The plug higher up on the pan is the fill/level check (stamped/recessed into the rear right corner of pan). ATF should just dribble from this plug on a hot, idling truck, in neutral on a level surface. The lower one is the drain. The one at the back of the pan in a recess is the filler. You need a hand pump or something similar to fill it to overflowing then top it off with the engine running. Make sure you shift through the gears a couple of times when topping off.
on the right side of the engine compartment you should find a red plastic dipstick remove it from tube and check fluid mark do this on level ground and engine idling in park. fluid has to be between the add and full marks at bottom of stick use dexron 3 automatic transmission fluid the fluid is added into the tube the stick came out of.
Before you put transmission fluid in, make sure it needs it. Check the transmission fluid with vehicle warm, engine running, emergency brake set and transmission in neutral. Pull the dipstick and wipe it off. Insert the dipstick back into the dipstick tube completely and then pull it back out. The fluid level should be between the two marks on the bottom of the dipstick. If it needs fluid pour the fluid into the dipstick tube (using a funnel). Only add about 1/2 quart of fluid at a time before you recheck it. Do not over fill the fluid.
