Re: My 87 chrysler has rough idle when sitting at stop...
It's the lean burn system that's probably the problem. If you replace the Engine control module/computer then it should solve your problem at least temporarily. I know there is a conversion to get away from the lean burn system for good, but I have not tried that out myself yet. But my engine control module seems to go out during extreme weather.

There are several potential issues that could be causing your 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo to spit and sputter while driving. Here are a few possibilities:
Fuel delivery issues: If your engine is not receiving the correct amount of fuel or air, it can cause hesitation or rough idling. This could be due to a clogged fuel filter, a malfunctioning fuel pump, or a problem with the air intake system.
Ignition system issues: A faulty spark plug, ignition coil, or other component of the ignition system can cause misfires, which can make the engine hesitate or sputter.
Emissions system issues: Your vehicle's emissions system is designed to reduce harmful pollutants in the exhaust. A malfunctioning component of this system, such as the oxygen sensor, can cause the engine to run poorly.
Electrical issues: A damaged or worn electrical component, such as a sensor or relay, can cause the engine to run rough or stall.
Transmission issues: If your vehicle is experiencing transmission problems, such as slipping or shifting issues, it can cause the engine to hesitate or sputter.
To determine the exact cause of the problem, it's best to have your vehicle diagnosed by a certified mechanic. They can perform a diagnostic scan to check for any error codes or issues with the engine, transmission, or emissions system.

Karl, have you confirmed good fuel pressure? It sounds like a weak fuel pump to me. Is your Check Engine light on? If so what are the codes in the computer?
it could be just about anything. first start by checking plugs, wires, and coil.Engine hesitation, which is normally most apparent during acceleration, is a condition that often results from either abnormal fuel flow to an engine or abnormal electrical conduction to a vehicle's spark plugs. Bad spark plug wires, whether they degrade internally or develop cracks and breaks in their outer coverings that cause electrical interference, can cause an engine to hesitate. Engine Surging, Engine surging is a common symptom of bad spark plug wires, especially if the wires have cracks or breaks in their outside insulation, heres the symtoms for a bad fuel filter. Engine Hesitation, Engine Stalling, Rough Engine Idle, Reduced Engine Power. if really plugged it will stop fuel flow and car will not start. just give it a good tuneup, and go from there! good-day!
try cleaning the inside of the MAF sensor and do the following procedure as well. Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls at stops and low erratic idle speed and rough idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
vacuum very important on this car number hoses & replace one by one. see how it runs. if problem continues check emission sticker & make sure the hoses r conected to the proper tubes.
