I HAVE A 2003 SATURN ION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. I HAD THE CAR HOOKED UP TO AN ANALYZER AND IT COMES UP WITH A MAP SENSOR CODE. I REPLACED THE MAP SENSOR AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT GO AWAY. THE CAR, AFTER DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 15 MILES ON THE X-WAY, IDLES AT 1800 RPMS UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I START THE CAR, WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, IT IDLES FINE. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND WITH THEIR ANALYZER THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG OTHER THAN IT LOOKED LIKE THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR WAS READING -5 F AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR 1/2 HOUR. THE TEMP GAUGE SEEM TO BE READING NORMAL. I REPLACED THE TEMP SENSOR AND IT WAS GOOD FOR 6 DAYS AFTER THAT AND I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AGAIN. COULD THIS PROBLEM BE A INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET ISSUE? ANY OTHER IDEAS?

On your vehicle when the Check engine light comes on and a code is store, the driver can retrieve the codes themselves with the onboard diagnostics. Put the key in the on position and watch for the light. The light will blink in a code .FOR EXAMPLE:
If the light blinks 4 flashes then a pause then 3 flashes then .......yep code 43. Easy enough.
Oh yea, by the way A bad intake manifold gasket would be a constant problem which would cause a vacuum leak. ( That's if it effected engine performance) A vacuum leak would be sensed at the Oxygen sensor as a lean condition. Code 44

Try the codes yourself

2006 saturn ion , got probs with car, keeps dying while driving. 2 codes comes up, alleviated both codes. but they still come up. the cranshaft sensor, and map sensor.

check / replace the crank/ cam positions sensor and check the wiring/maf sensor
simply resetting with fixing will not fix the fault

P2431 saturn ion

Why would you change fuel injectors?

Mail them away to be ultra sonic cleaned & tested only,
expensive proposition that was!

The MAP Sensor failed a test also?

I googled the P2431 & seems like a Secondary Air Injection
System Pressure Sensor ,hopefully that will get you close

Google it-- not easy to find some of those codes

Codes come back because you haven't found the fault
that set the code.

You working on things from yester year --not todays techology

My check engine light keeps coming on! The code that keeps coming up is p0105! What exactly is it? The map sensor has already been changed and still the check engine light stays on and the same code still...

Well, something related to manifold pressure is at issue. Look for intake leaks, cracked or dislodged hoses. Check engine compression, it appears that the Map sensor was a victim and not a cause. This is often the case with error codes.

My Saturn ion 04 coolant warning lights keeps coming on but there is the right amount of coolant. how to fix this problem?

You have a sensor in the engine that reads the coolant level. Try to unplug it and hook it back up to reset it. You could also take the hot side battery terminal off to reset it as well. If it remains on, it might need replaced. It will not hurt anything by staying on.

I have a 2006 Saturn Ion...the check engine light comes on and off from time to time. It does it pretty regularly, but I can't tell any difference in the car's operation. The check engine light came on one...

You have an intermitten problem, and 10 to one it's in the evap emissions system. With the light coming on and off the computor doesn't have time to store a code. When the light comes on and stays on, then go back to autozone and get the code.

My check engine light on my 07 saturn ion keeps coming on and gives the code p1174 and p0300 what do they mean and how do i fix

1174 is a lean code, and would have to been set first because it will not set when the 0300 is there. 0300 is a random misfire, because it read after the lean code, it was probably caused by the lean condition. 1st check for vacuum leaks from hoses or intake gaskets, you cal listen for a hissing sound, or spray carb cleaner around intake systems, a change in rpm will be noticed when spraying near a vac leak. other probable causes are the upstream 02 sensor, map sensor, or fuel delivery problems. does the vehicle idle porly, or does it miss at the top end?

Oxygen sensor location on a 2003 Saturn Ion-1

One is front of the cat, and one after the cat of the exhaust.
The OBD Scanner should tell you which bank is producing the error.
Bank one is the front one.

Saturn ion 3 - service engine soon light

this light comes on only when there is an emission sensor malfunction. you need a code reader to find out why it came on, and only a scanner can turn it off . i strongly suggest you see a mechanic who is good with emission diagnostic skill.
