2000 Dodge Ram 3.9 manual transmission with hydraulic clutch began abruptly requiring high RPM's to get vehicle moving. Told to replace clutch to solve problem.Clutch resevoir was full.Seems to weird! Is there a way to adjust or bleed to further identify my problem

It seems the clutch is not disengageing, all the way, causing slippage. Is there any free travel before the clutch disengages?if not this may be why you get slippage. If the pedal goes down with a normal feeling as always before, its hard to believe that it would be slipping. You might loosen the bleeder,to see if any pressure is evident, which there should not be until the clutch is depressed,or disengaged. If so the clutch is not releaseing all the way.Check for some adjustments between the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch fork.If you can see it .Do you here metal scraping or slippage?Do you have chatter or grabby clutch? Have you noticed oil behind the engine on the floor?

If the clutch is slipping, you have to replace it. :-(
There is nothing to adjust. Make sure you get the whole set, including the pressure plate/springs.

This is an unusual design with no service allowed. I don't believe the hydraulics could cause slippage, but there is a way to test. If you start to loosen the bolts holding the slave to the transmission, does the clutch engage further? Try loosening both bolts1/8 inch and then drive the truck. If it works better, this may be the problem. Unfortunately by now, if you have been driving with the clutch slipping, the pressure plate springs have probably lost their tension. If you decide to try this, please let us know what happens.

A diagram for a 2000 Dodge 2.4 caravan po743 code on

23 year old , and lots of problems and this one is hard
p0 =USA federal codes
p07 means transmission errors
743 is TCC FAILURE
TCC MEANS TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP FAILURES.
THE PCM /TCm, DETECTS THIS AS FAILURE OF VSS SENSOR SPEED NOT DROPPING THE CORRECT RPM
IT MEANS THE THE CLUTCH IS DEAD..
the path is complex (deep in the tranny onion layers)
tcm to solenoid wire, then hydraulic solenoid valve sends high pressure to the TC locker, and the TC locks
so any point in my serial path above can fail!! and do often.
the tests are in the service manual ,I will not post them .

I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota 3.9 with a 5 speed. I am having difficulties with the clutch and am trying to figure out if it is the clutch needing replaced or if it is the hydraulics.

Bad hydraulics (leaking/spongy) and worn out clutch have opposite symptoms. If the clutch does NOT ENGAGE - get the vehicle moving - you probably need to replace the clutch and/or pressure plate.
If the clutch does NOT DISENGAGE - you can't get the transmission into gear, or there is difficulty or grinding when trying to shift between gears - your hydraulic system is not moving the clutch release arm far enough to disengage the clutch.

Why does my reverse gear grid on my 2000 Toyota

I take it you mean the transmission grinds when shifting into reverse with a manual transmission in which case the input shaft of the transmission is still partially engaged with the engine. One cause may be low fluid in the hydraulic clutch reservoir if it has a hydraulic clutch mechanism; use DOT-3 brake fluid and pump the clutch pedal a few times to remove any air. Another cause may be that the pilot bearing is hanging up; this is a major repair. Another possibility is that the clutch lining is coming loose or totally disintegrated requiring replacement.

Clutch replacement 2wd 3.9 v6 2000 dodge dakota

If the clutch was worn out, the transmission would not go into reverse or low gear with the engine running.
This clutch is activated by hydraulic pressure like your brakes. The hydraulic part may not be working correctly.
To replace the clutch you have to remove the transmission.

The truck transmission will not stay in reverse. You must hold the shifter in position for the transmission to stay in reverse. They are not any othe rshifting issues. What would cause this & what...

why are you guys telling him to check his shift cable when this vehicle uses a hydraulic clutch? it's likely 1) hydraulics are leaking or 2) bad synchros. try replacing the hydraulics and clutch first. if that doesn't work out, you may need your ****** rebuilt.

Clutch pedal to high is a new clutch cable required or can it be agusted manually for my honda crv 2000

Hello
When the clutch pedal gets high that means the clutch disk is worn out, as the disk thins from wear the clutch pressure plate springs move outward, that raises the pedal height. As far as a cable goes this car doesn't have one, the clutch is hydraulic, and all hydraulic clutches are self adjusting.

1997 dodge ram 3500 with manual transmission. truck wont start with clutch engaged

Under the dash where the clutch pedal exits the cabin at the clutch master cylinder, you will see a two pronged plug. Unplug it and run a a small piece of wire from one side of the plug to the other.
CAUTION: THE VEHICLE WILL NOW START WITHOUT ENGAGING THE CLUTCH PEDAL AND WHILE IN GEAR!
I hope I've answered your question. If so please rate my assistance and leave a testimonial.

P1740 code came on for a 2001 dodge ram 1500 what does it mean?

This is the OD Solenoid. There is a TSB out that covers the 2000-2001 Ram truck.

EFFECTIVE DATE: Oct. 02, 2000
SUBJECT:
46RE Transmission MIL Due To DTC P1740 – TCC or OD Solenoid Performance
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the transmission pressure boost valve cover
plate.
MODELS:
2000 - 2001 (AB) Ram Van
2000 - 2001 (AN) Dakota
2000 - 2001 (BR/BE) Ram Truck
2000 - 2001 (DN) Durango
NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 46RE
TRANSMISSION BUILT BEFORE AUGUST 01, 2000 (MDH 0801XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may complain of a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination. Upon
further analysis, it is determined that the MIL is caused by Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
P1740 - Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) or Overdrive Solenoid Performance. Other than
the MIL, the customer may not notice any other condition with the transmission.
This condition may be caused by an intermittent and momentary TCC disengagement
condition. The transmission valve body pressure boost valve cover plate has been revised
with a larger size orifice hole to address this condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
1. Warm the transmission to normal operating temperatures.
2. Using the DRB IIIò, perform a torque converter clutch (TCC) stall test. The stall test
has been revised so that the TCC remains engaged for a period of four (4) seconds.
NOTE: THE DRB III MUST BE OPERATING AT RELEASE LEVEL 50.4 MDS2
SYSTEM CIS CD2067 OR HIGHER (AVAILABLE THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 2,
2000) IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE REVISED TORQUE CONVERTER
CLUTCH STALL TEST. DO NOT USE EARLIER VERSION STALL TEST TO
DETERMINE CONDITION OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH.
3. If the engine stalls as a result of the TCC stall test, then perform the Repair
Procedure.
4. If the engine does not stall, as a result of the TCC stall test, then further diagnosis is
required. The technician may want to consider the following components during
their additional diagnosis: a cut or worn input shaft seals, a missing pump lock-up
circuit check ball, or worn converter hub, input shaft, reaction shaft, and pump rotor.

A/T Shifts into Reverse abruptly

Sounds as if you have a pressure fault, dont leave it at this point it could only be a solonoid change or a crack in the rear cover, but if left a complete transmission may be required.
