I have a 2005 Ford F-350 6.0 Diesel. We recently performed fuel filter changes. We turned the key and you could hear the fuel pump clicking and bleeding and it started right up. Next day, rough start and black smoke from exhaust pipe, eventually cleared out. Third day, really rough start, hard to idle but after a long period cleared out. Fourth day, no start at all. Noticed clicking sound from fuel pump now absent while turning key to on position. We rechecked the filters and o-rings and it all checked out.

Change the primary fuel pump and the air filters. Check the preheat relays and glow plugs. Also cranking speed is critical (8 RPMs or better is required) 2005 starter is old and may be dragging. Refrain from using Starting fluid in the summer. Try a can of B&G44K fuel additive in the fuel to clean up the injectors. They could be weeping causing the excessive black smoke. The B&G is available at Toyota (11.00 a can ) do not substitute, its the best on the market. Also drain any water separators daily.

You still have air trapped, I suggest you have a shop perform a proper purge of the fuel system by the book.

Yes, the clutch is either completely burned out or you have a leak in one of the seals.

Diesel ford will crank but wont start acts like

If you have the 6.0 ltr diesel, then check the bowl where the 2nd fuel filter is, see if there is fuel in the bowl, if not then either your fuel pump which is on the frame under the driver's side in the water seperator/ heater has gone bad, or your filters could be bad, or the fuse to the fuel pump or the pump shut off switch which is located on the side panel at your feet on the passengers side, there is a reset button, make sure it has not popped and press it down, hopefully this helps, I had the same prob.

I´AM THINKING ABOUT GETTING A PERFORMANCE CHIP FOR MY 2005 350 SUPER DUTY FORD 6 LT DIESEL ENGINE WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE

Do your research. Don't rely on one manufacturer's claims. Diesel's work on precision. Any time you change something in a diesel engine it affects everything else, for example, shoving more fuel through the injectors can push them beyond the built in tolerances and lead to premature wear. One of the best authorities on diesel performance is Banks. They have been at it for a long time, GM recognized them as such in the early 80's. Trust what they tell you.If they don't offer that type of chip or performance chances are there is a reason.Hope this helps.
