I have a ford F 350 7.3 diesel truck. At high speed, I'm getting some hesitation. I notice the air restriction gauge is closed. I reset it and it runs ok for a time. After a while, it starts acting up again. I check and the air restriction gauge again is closing. I changed the resgtriction gauge and have a clean filter. Is there some other sensor telling the motor it is getting too much air or do I have a trinny problem?

Change the plugs and the rotor insode the distributor. Sounds like your focus has either a hole in the Rotor Button, a cracked rotor button or the plugs need to be changed. Anotehr thing that would make your focus stall, **** and generally be a pain in the **** is: Fuel injectors out of hole; bad fuel injector; bad gasoline; Air filters need changing.
Those are basically some of the things that cause the Focus to jump and ****.

Check and adjust your choke accordingly, also since you have given it a tune up you should adjust your timing if it needs adjustment. Also check for any vacuum leaks. As for the exhaust leak I would look along the exhaust manifold and then along the exhaust pipe under the cab, check where the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe connect as there should be a donut or flange in there and it could be deteriorating. Good luck and remember to rate all the solutions you get, thanx.

Some of these engines have a place to drain water out of the fuel system.. Some fords actually have a stick under the hood that you push or pull That opens a valve on a water collection bowl. It's not labeled usually. It might state where it is in the owners manual under fuel water drainage or something similar.. if that bowl is full it will cause hesitation... If it gets over full it will cause runability problems. Another possibility since you said it's black smoke is one of your injectors is sticking at low rpms and squirting raw fuel into the cylinder till the rpms get up enough to burn that fuel off completely then then the injector works a little better.... Do you notice any missing... Feel something under the hood like the air cleaner housing and make sure the vibration is constant and doesn't have a small sudden shake and the n smoothe... And then a small sudden shake again.
If it does have this shake you can trouble shoot which injectors by with the engine running loosening an injector line and seeing if the engine runs worse or not.. If it runs worse tighten it up and move to the next line till you unscrew one and feel and hear no difference... When you find that one that's the injector with the problem.

Pull the filters and ck for plastic or o-ring in wrong place. Something is up in the filter.

Hello,
Could be several things.
First question is do you have any performance chips or programs installed ?
As they make engine run stronger which in turn requires More air.
If this is the case you may want to consider installing an after market air filter ie; K&N filter?
If You do not have performance programing installed then you need to check air passage ways for obstruction, These engines require a lot of air and they cant perform unless they can breath.
