Humming may not mean pumping up to pressure. Has anyone put a fuel pressure gauge on it to confirm its up to spec? One thing you can try, is to remove air inlet hose from air cleaner where it attaches to the throttle body. With key off, open throttle up and give a good spray of WD-40 into the throttle body. Now try to start it. If it fires up briefly then stalls, then you have a fuel delivery problem, probably fuel pump, but try changing fuel filter first, in case it's plugged, causing low pressure at engine. If you have to change the pump, you'll want to change the filter as well anyway.

Fuel pump not working

Sometimes you can get to "revive" temporarily a bad pump beating you gas tank, might be enought to drive it to mechanical service to replace it and saves you a towing service.

What makes 2001 Pontiac Montana stall and die while driving, speed doesn't matter?

Amazing.....At this very moment in time.....my 2000 silhouette is doing the same thing....if you were unaware.....ventures Montana's and silhouette are from the same mold. Very similar in all aspects. My diagnostics have got to the fuel pump part of suspects....but I have already checked filter, relays, fuses and ignition electronics....my latest suspect is the pressure sensor that monitors the pressure of the gas tank....there is also a pressure sensor on the injector rail I'm suspicious of. I'm going to find out how to place each sensor in "okay ....fuel pump turn on and pump fuel to the throttle body" to check them. In my case....I don't smell any gas after turning the engine over....trying to start it.....sometimes for over an hour....never any gas smell....so I suspect fuel delivery is the problem. The fuel pump has several sensors that control whether or not it needs to run....and pump gas. I can hear my fuel pump run for 2 or3 seconds when I turn the ignition to the on or start positions.testing all of those sensors is my plan of action for this 3 day weekend. Your on track with your work and suspicion of the position sensors......vacuum leaks will follow the sensor checks. Vacuum leaks could cause a couple of sensors to fail too.....I dropped my fuel tank last weekend....and found the fuel pump to be in working condition.....I removed my fuel filter and punched a hole through it for free flow.....to eliminate it from the list...after checking the vacuum angle....I will move to the electronics side.....with the ignition switch first and the transmission position indicator switch following.....I've plugged my trouble code reader in and didn't get any indication of any failed electronic devices......my problem and your problem seem to be very similar, except that I am doing all of my work on the van myself. I will try to keep you informed of my diagnostics through fix it.it would be nice to know how yours is advancing too.....there are a few directions you can progress into.....hope one solves your problem....if not.....there will be more ideas to come....until I solve my problem....good luck to. Us both and onward we go......Nick.ps couldn't spell or grammar check because I'm using my phone to compose....and the typing pad covers the entirescript being typed. Sorry for any problems. I've been told the fuel tank selector switch (in the cab) is bad on my 79 Ford E150 van. I have a new 2-pole switch, but since nothing is labeled I have no idea where to attach the wires from the old to...

yes these dash switches have allways been a problem the best way is to replace it with correct one from autoparts store but i usually replace tank selector valve at same time (there both about due) shield your eyes when dealing with this device as gas sprays out when removing it
a note : observe fuel level while driving on both switch posisitions the faulty one will indicate No fuel level when you know you got gas in both tanks

What could make a 2000 astro van with 4.3 V6 just die as we where driving no codes thought it ran out of gas but that was not the problem still had about 10 gallons in tank. Towed it home replace fuel...

check the fuse for the injectors, the wires may have shoted out at the breather and blown the fuse to open the injectors--separate fuse than the fuel pump

98 Grand Caravan 3.3 engine starting / running problems

A bad earth connection point on my New Zealand model Chrysler Voyager LE (same car as yours but right hand drive) caused similar problems, including the towing thing. My dealer told me that they would be busy for 3 weeks - dealer talk for "we would prefer to sell you a new one".

A bunch of black wires connect to a chassis ground bolt on my model on the right hand side wall, under dashboard height. I was "lucky" to have the fault present when investigating it, and testing I did afterwards proved this to be a definite cause. You have to remove some covers and pull the floor carpet away This may be on the left on your model. A plug in connector is used, to bring multiple wires together at this point. All I had to do was undo the nut and clean the metal of the bolt and earth lug - use a file or sandpaper, and maybe spray on some WD40 or CRC to impove conductivity. I added an extra washer to help the metal to metal bond also. This seems to have fixed the problem. It has been OK now for about 1000 miles. Good luck !
