Which in the manual means either W, 3 or L is engaged, but it says it is in park, and I have shifted it to drive too... It is parked don a very steep hill however and the petrol is near empty.. could this be the problem? would love some advice please :)

SOURCE: 1998 Volvo V70 with potential transmission problems?

Yes, it's the 'pnp' switch (also known as the inhibitor switch) which is on the side of the transmission.

I own 2 Volvo 960s (3 litre automatics) which are similar in many respects ... and have that flashing arrow. It's a well known fault and you don't have much to worry about.

Rather than write it all here, you can read what I wrote as an ebay guide about it at http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-960-Automatic_W0QQugidZ10000000003233806

I did put similar info on my website at http://www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk/volvo960.html with photos

Though the ebay guide is better ...

If you haven't got time to read it ... forget the flashing arrow and put a bit of black tape over it ... My wife's car has (192,000 miles) had that arrow flashing for 3 years. My car (100,000 miles) has had that flashing arrow since I bought it 1 year ago.

I did change the pnp on both cars ... but you also need to have the computer error reset by Volvo to have the light extinguished. Don't worry ... keep driving.

If your car has the xenon headlights, it might be a faulty xenon ballast/regulator module. You car has daytime running lights so they are on at a low power setting all the time.

Volvo v70 automatic won't go into gear, and makes a grating noise when you try

Check the shift linkage cable and make sure its in place at the transmission.

I have a Volvo and my headlights do not work...I have checked the fuses and the bulbs. What else can i do to fix this? The brights work but no daytime rinning lights or low beams.

Our Volvo's have a headlight switch for manual or automatic - mine is set that the all the lights and fog lamps come on after the car starts. - check the switch to the left of the steering wheel.

Transmission when in Reverse does not function

Change mechanics, try a specialized guy who only does Volvos.. better than dealer better than some **** shop.
It sounds like the gear sensor but a specialized guy will quickly diagnose... for parts, head to an online scrap yard or ebay, kijijijijijijijijij.

Transmission service required - how much?

You will need to take the car to a shop that has Volvo Vida and have it scanned. There will be a fault code in the trans control unit. This code will hopefully help the mechanic diagnose the problem and give you an estimate for repair.

2002 Volvo V70 automatic - emmison system light

This is probably a faulty Throttle Position Sensor - I had exactly the same problem.
Vovlo specialist hooked my ODBII to a code reader.

Best to get the throttle body cleaned at the same time they replace the TPS

All in £125 plus the dreaded VAT.

Hope this helps

Lights on my dashboard coming on now.

These are Called "Dummy Lights" Because it can mean any Number of Different things for one Light. The best way to Solve this is to locate an Authorized Mechanic and have a Computer Diagnostics Ran to locate the Exact Problems.
