2001 Chevy Impala Security System

My 2001 Impala does not start and the security light comes on even though we are using the correct key. Is there any way we can disable the security system wiring so we do not have to get a new ignition cylinder and where can I get the wiring diagrams on the internet so I do not have to purchase a repair manual?

I have the same exact problem. My car will not start for exactly ten minutes and th security light is flashing. I never know when this will happen but once it starts, the car runs like a champ. I have taken the car to the dealer and had the ignition fixed but that is not the problem. help!!

I have the exact same problem. Sometimes it will go for months with no problem then as your driving the yellow security light comes on and you know that once you shut the car off it will not start. I have tried using the remote lock and double clicking it twice and that seemed to work but then that stopped working. I will try clicking it three times. This is a very common problem with GM but they bury their head and ignore the problem.I will probably never buy another GM car.

We have the same problem with the car not starting sometimes. If we leave it exactly ten minutes it seems to start. If we try to start the car now in the ten minute period it will not start for another 10 minutes. I hope someone finds the solution. Someone told us to disarm the timer off the security system however we need a wiring diagram for this mechanic. Does anyone know where we can find a wiring diagram?

I have a 2001 Impala. My security light will flash and sometimes the car won't start. My dad told me turn the key to the start position, place your foot on the break, put your car in the last gear it was in (D, R, or N). Then shift all the way back into park. Make sure you shift all the way into park. Take your foot off the break. Then turn ignition back to off. Your car should then start right up. He said the sensor still thinks the car is in D, R, or N although it's in park. So it confuses the system and it doesn't start because it doesn't know which function to do. It pretty much locks up. I'm pos. this will work. My car does it every few months. Hope this helps.

I was told if you turn the key off and on 3 times leaving it on the 3rd time letting it sit for ten minutes
will reset the computer and car will crank.I had to turn ignition back on press brake pull shifter down to low and back to park 2 times quickly and car started right up.My mechanic says ignition needs replaced cost 340.00 said it was a common problem, said he replaces them often.

I had the exact same problem for 4 long years but I did find the solution so it will NEVER happen again. Put shifter in neutral, get out, push vehicle 10 feet forward, That's it! Oh...make sure you are at the edge of a 100 foot, or more, cliff. I swear to you, you will never have this problem again with this vehicle. GM should have recalled this years ago but does that surprise anyone?

Try clicking the LOCK button on the key fob THREE times, letting the car sit for a minute or two then UNLOCK and try to start.

They sell a passlock bypass that is relatively easy to install....about 4 wires that will stop that problem. My 2001 Impala has been ok since I installed this bypass.

I am a prior Law Enforcement Officer and I had a 2003 impala for a police cruiser and I had the exact same problem. I will tell you what worked for me and you are not going to believe it but it did work. The next time you notice the problem, look over and see if you left the AC switch on. If it is on turn it off and then try to restart it. I dont know what it is but when my cruiser did it all you had to do was turn off the AC and it would start EVERY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope this helps.

Some customers may comment on an engine that will not crank. Others may comment on the security light being on. Technicians may find DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) B2958 and/or B2960.
The following are the likely causes of these conditions:

  1. Damaged or loose/unseated terminals in these BCM
  2. connectors may cause a security light or no start condition:
• BCM connector C1 (24-way, pink in color), term
inal B9 (white wire, circuit 1459) • BCM connector C1 (24-way, pink in color), terminal B12 (black wire, circuit 1835) • BCM connector C2 (24-way, grey in color), terminal A3 (yellow wire, circuit 1836)

I am a gm tech, i have been working for gm for 19 years. trust me, you need to replace your ignition cylinder, this will include the "passlock" sensor. you can replace it while the car is running. if you pull off the black cover around the igniton cylinder with a small pick, you then can push a release tab to remove the cyinder while its running. if you do it this way the vehicle will relearn the new pass code. if not you will have to have it programmed. also when you buy it the cylinder, you will need to get it at a gm dealership, you will also have to have the new cylinder coded to your key. good luck!

I had this problem for years on my `01 Impala, the car was at the dealers more than home. The problem is with the pass lock security system, you take out the key and when you put it back the security system says the wroung key. What I did was to take the key off the key ring with clicker on chain and leave the key in ignition. This has solved my problem for 6 or 7 months now. You use your clicker to lock and unlock your doors and never remove the key. Yes some one might steal it but, as I told my wife, we have insurance and would be better off if it was stolen.

How can I bypass the security code

Why do think the key security is bad? If you still have a factory key, this is not the problem...if no factory key, you can take your VIN number or original key to GM dealer to get new key that they will program for you...Check for dirty battery connections:)

Have 2003 chevy impala will not start. how do i by pass thy security system?

I was told u cant bypass security light - it may be a broken wire or a wire came off starter or it could be the key switch - mine would do that - leave key in the ignition (may have to leave ignition on) for any where from 11 - 30 minutes and see if it starts then - if it does I had to have the ignition replaced and there is a recall on those for that - it costed me $605 to get it fixed - waiting to here back from Chevy about getting reimbursed for it!

I have a 2001 Chevy Impala LS that won't crank,

I doubt it has anything to do with the key switch.
If the security system is the cause, the security warning light should be on.
Someone would need to check the circuit between the key switch and the starter when it fails to crank to find the problem.

How do i reset the passlock system for the chevy impala 2001....i want to turn the damn security system off!!!!

Turn the key on, don't try to start it, let it set on for ten minutes turn it off. do this three times, after the third time your will start. Make sure you have everything else turned off. and if your lights are automatic with the key on, you will have to put a charger on the battery as you do it. because 30 minutes with the lights on will drain your battery. Also you can not disable the security system

2001 chevy impala security light keeps coming on

This is a problem with chevy vehicles that have the system theft light. after a couple of years of using the key, the lock tumblers inside the ignition switch tend to wear out and so causing the system to think it's being stolen. Now you have to put the key in and turn the ignition to the on position, without cranking the car and leave it for 10 minutes until the theft light goes out. Very annoying especially if you're in a hurry. The dealer cost to repair the ignition switch goes for about $600-$800. that includes re-teaching the key.

How do i reset the security system on my 2003 chevy impala

Are you reffering to the alarm or the pass lock system that put the theft light on.....If its the alarm the put the key in the door and unlock it. If its the pass lock system put the key in the ignition and turn it on and try to start the vehicle. After it shuts itself off leave the key on for ten min until the theft light stops flashing the turn key off and try to start it again. This may take a few times....
