Hi,
Since it sounds where this is intermittent, I would be looking to replace the camshaft or shaft speed sensor. I had a similar problem and could not find anything wrong with the car when it ran... So I told my mechanic to replace that, since it is an electrical senor, it is something that can work fine and cut out for no reason. Disabling the car for awhile. Almost as if it gets to a certain temperature that it will not read the speed and the car shuts down as it is programed to do.
WE HAVE THE SOLUTION.
WE ALSO HAVE A 2000 SEBRING CONVERTIBLE JXI
REPLACE THE IAC AND EGR VALVE, REPLACE ALL SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES; THREE SPARK PLUG ARE HIDDEN UNDER THE MANIFOLD.
CAR NOW RUNS PERFECT!!!!!!
THE REASON I SAY REPLACE ALL SPARK PLUGS IS BECAUSE MOST AUTO REPAIR SHOPS REPLACE ONLY THREE BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO DO THE EXTRA WORK AND REMOVE THE MANIFOLD TO RPLACE THE HIDDED THRE!!!!!.
OUR CHRYSLER SEBRING CONVERTIBLE IS THE FIRST CAR I HAVE SEEN WHERE A MECHANIC DOES NOT HAVE IMMEDATE ACCESS TO ALL SPARK PLUGS. SERIOUS DESIGN PROBLEM!!!!!! OUR MECHANIC TOLD US THAT AUTO REPAIR SHOPS WILL ONLY REPLACE THREE AND NOT SIX SPARK PLUGS!!!! AND TELL YOU THAT ALL SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED.
YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG WHEN THE DEALER QUOTES YOU 300 TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT ALL SPARK PLUG WIRE ARE REPLACED, INCLUDING THE HIDDEN THREE.!!!
THE TWO MAJOR COMPONENTS THAT WILL RESOLVE IDLE AND CUT OFF ISSUES ARE THE IAC AND THE ERG VALVE. INSTEAD OF TAKING THEM OFF AND CLEANING THEM JUST REPLACE THEM. THEY COST APPROX. 40.00 A PIECE. DO NOT BUT THEM FROM THE DEALER. YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF.

Usually answered in minutes!
Hey, there!! Same prob with mine. Did some research on the Internet, and found that it is the IDLE CONTROL VALVE, located right under the throttle body. Costs about $20 on-line. Took me 40 minutes to R&R. Problem solved!! What happens is it gets gummed up with soot from the intake, and doesn't open and close properly. Same with my Sister's car. Same model and model year. SOLVED. Try this. Am sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. Paul
