The anti-theft system, cutting off the fuel system cause it did not recognize my key, started coming on more commonly. Now it just does not turn the engine over. It just makes a click sound when it goes to start. I have already tested the starter and it works just fine. I even pulled out the ignition relay switch and it was just fine as well, other then the anti-theft system keeps coming on. Is it just not registering the key and the anti-theft module needs a key fob? Or is it the ignition? 1996 Grand Am

Good Evening, your anti-theft is in the ignition. If you go to start the car, then leave the key in the run position when it does not start for about 11- 15mins. Once the security light goes off then turn it off and try starting it. If it does not work you might have to do it a couple more times. What happens is the system relearns your key. Hope that helps,
Thanks,
Joey

I hate to say it, but it sounds like this is a dealer repair, it could be the anti-theft module, ignition switch or the instrument cluster is bad. at any rate a dealer will have to reprogram the system if any of these parts are changed. Now if you don't care about the anti theft system it can be disabled, but the light will remain on at all times. Heres a link

My anti-theft system came on and my key wouldn't come out but it would start and my windows don't roll down and my sunroof doesn't open does that have to do with the anti-theft system

When the anti-theft system in your car is activated, it is designed to prevent unauthorized access to the vehicle and protect it from theft. The specific features and functions affected by the activation of the anti-theft system can vary depending on the make and model of your car. However, here are some common ways in which the anti-theft system can impact your vehicle:

  1. Ignition Interlock: In many vehicles, the anti-theft system can prevent the engine from starting or cut off power to the ignition system. This is often the primary function of the anti-theft system to deter thieves from driving the vehicle.
  2. Key Removal: Some anti-theft systems can also lock the key in the ignition switch, making it difficult or impossible to remove the key when the system is activated.
  3. Door Locks: The anti-theft system may lock or unlock the doors automatically when it is activated. This can be intended to prevent unauthorized entry.
  4. Windows and Sunroof: In some cases, the anti-theft system can disable the power windows and sunroof to prevent someone from gaining access to the interior through these openings.
  5. Alarm Activation: If your vehicle is equipped with a security alarm system as part of the anti-theft system, it may activate the alarm if unauthorized entry is detected or if someone tries to tamper with the vehicle.
  6. Vehicle Immobilization: Some advanced anti-theft systems can immobilize the vehicle by cutting off fuel or electrical power to the engine.
If you're experiencing issues with your key not coming out, windows not rolling down, and the sunroof not opening, it's possible that these problems are related to the activation or malfunction of the anti-theft system. However, it's essential to consult your vehicle's owner's manual or contact the manufacturer or a qualified automotive technician for specific information about how your vehicle's anti-theft system operates and to diagnose and resolve the issues you're facing.

In many cases, anti-theft system problems may require specialized equipment and knowledge to diagnose and repair, so seeking professional assistance is often the best course of action.

My theft light is flashing but my 1997 expedition wont start. The vehicle turns over but just don't start.

ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM Passive anti-theft system
Your ignition key has a unique imbedded transponder which engages engine electronics and allows the vehicle to be started. Without the use of your special ignition key, the vehicle will not start.

During each vehicle start, the coded key is read by the anti-theft system. If the key’s ID code matches the code in the anti-theft system, the vehicle is enabled to start.

Anti-theft system
Briefly illuminates when the ignition is turned to the ON position to verify that the passive anti-theft system is operating properly.

Also, its possisble that tou have actovated the fuel pump switch.

When anti theft light is blinking the car wont start. Can you bypass the anti theft device

On a 2003 Chevy Maibu the theft system light comes on and blinks when the system is triggered. The car will not start and the fuel pump cuts out. You must turn key to on and have all doors closed. Keep the key to on for 10 mins til theft light turns solid and then disappears. Then turn key to start and it should fire up.

No start cranks but does not fire has spark. has fuel if bypassed by relay fuses good new fuel pump a year ago has fuel replaced battery froze, has prostart remote start, been in 8 years no issues 2000...

check to see if the security light or anti theft light flashes. if that is the case, sounds like the bypass for the remote starter may be causeing the no start by tripping the anti theft system. Remove remote starter and bypass system and join any cut wires back together that may be cut for remote starter. Try starting, if theft light still flashes leave key in the on position after attempted start for 15 minutes till theft light goes solid, turn off and try again. Repeat process for three times to re-learn factory theft system in vehicle. If problem still persists, then take to your local dealer to reprogram factory theft module in the cluster.

When I try to start my 96 Saab 900 se I can tell that the fuel pump is not working. When I check the fuse with a 12volt meter There is no power on either side of the fuse. however, when I use a jumper wire...

Yes, it sounds like anti theft. Have you tried one of your other keys? They are coded to the the car and the ECU recognizes whether you are using a correctly coded key. If you just had the key cut, it is suspect. Start there.

Anti theft system on my 2000 malibu goes off when driving

Its your ignition switch. Its not recognizing when you turn it to the start position. The little terminals inside the switch get burned and wear down. When mine went out, the whole power to the dash would flicker, even cut out when driving. I actually wired my system to 1 toggle switch for on and off, I kept the anti theft wires attached to the switch. I also have a starter switch, if I fail to turn the key like I'm trying to start the car, the theft light comes on and the car dies right after starting.
