You would be better off having someone familiar with this car do this as the radio cover, console veneer, concole ashtray and console finisher have to be removed to get to th forward retaining screws. Then unclip rear air distrobution box and unplug cigar lighter remove rear securing screw. Unplug security electrical connecter and fuse box harness. pull towards rear to remove. Good Luck.

Remove center console from 2002 ford explorer. do I have to remove the seats?

I don't think you have to remove the seats. However any nuts, bolt or screws you remove you'll need to keep in case you're replacing the console.

Open the console and at the bottom you'll find two Phillips head screws.

Look at the front of the console, beneath the radio. Next to the coin holder area, is four bolts. Remove the four bolts with a ratchet.

Look at the center part of the console. There are two Phillips-head screws. Remove these with a Phillips screwdriver.

Pull the console upward to unhook it from the floorboard. Remove it from the Ranger. With the console removed, you'll see the mounting brackets for the console and the nuts the screws and bolts go into. It is not necessary to remove these brackets when replacing the console.

Move the replacement console into the cabin. Line up the console with the mounting brackets on the floorboard. The console screw and bolt holes should be lined up with the mounting bracket's nuts.

Hold the console firmly in place with hand. Insert and tighten the two Phillips-head screws in the console storage compartment, and then insert and tighten the four bolts at the front part of the console. Insert and tighten the two Phillips-head screws in the center of the console.

Hope I didn't over explain. Hope this helps.
