I mixed up which of the plug wires go to the ditributor cap. How can I tell from bottom to top which one goes to which spark plug?

Take out number one plug, make a wad of paper and put it just in the plug hole. Turn the engine by hand until it pops out, the engine is just about to fire on number one cylinder. Take off the distributor cap and see where the rotor is positioned, move the engine slowly and watch the points. When they just open that is the position of the number one plug lead on the cap. Firing order 1342, go around the cap with the other leads.

I have changed ditributor cap spark plugs for my mazda626 92,v36,2.5. after i started its misfiring and i think its not burning the fuel, can see smoke coming from the exhaust.as i try to rev up the rpm...

Make sure the spark plugs are properly gapped (this will cause misfires). Replace all spark plugs wires!! Insure there is no oil inside the spark plug chamber.

Changing spark plug wires

The best way is to replace one wire at a time. Grab each wire boot and twist back and forth to break loose the sealing to the plug, and pull off. When reinstalling, make sure that all wires are seated in the ditributor cap, they can be a little tough to get seated properly.

How do you test the distributor on the 2000 Xterra? Is there a diagram that explains what the voltage in or out should be?

hi testing a ditributor is usualy done visualy.. you can atatch a lead to the dizzy and the attatch a dummy spark plug, you can get them from auto shops, when you turn the engine over the plug will spark, and you can determine quality of the spark by how bright it is, you can test leads with a multimetre useing ohms for resistance and the leads should have a spec written on them, be carefull not to touch anything when the engine is being turned over because the current can be potentialy fatal
