Look at the belt routing (the way the belt runs around all of the pulleys). If you do not find a belt routing diagram under the hood, you'll want to make your own sketch

Find the belt tensioner pulley, usually located just above the crankshaft.

Insert your 19mm ratchet or breaker bar tool into the tensioner bolt head and pull toward the front of the vehicle to release tension on the belt.

Slip the old belt off of the pulleys.

Reference your belt routing diagram to get the new belt seated on all pulleys. Make sure any grooves on the belt rest against grooved pulleys, and that smooth belt surfaces contact smooth pulleys.

Slowly release the tensioner and check for correct belt tension.

Run the engine and observe for flapping or noise, signs of incorrect installation.

1997 toyota carolla at 112,000KM what are the additional maintenance requirements, ie timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, etc I have a generic maintenance log which does not provide specifics,...

Timing belt inspection is in order, and if the timing belt is replaced, then the water pump should be replaced also. I have inspected timing belts on many engines that have over 150,000 miles on them and found the timing belt was perfect. It is hard to say why some vehicles wear out a belt moe than others, but replacing the belt is good insurance. As for the plugs, I would just replace them. They will wear out sooner than any timing belt.

Can my 91 toyota carolla leak oil if the bolts on the timing belt cover are all missing.

Thats a very good question, a timing belt is a dry belt. What that means is no oil should be in the general area. You have a couple of seals your camshaft oil seal and your crankshaft front oil seal. As long as both of those are not leaking then you will not leak oil in that general area.

Air conditioning unit seized up and burt the belt.

Yoe will have to replace whatever seized up, if you want AC, If not, just unplug the wires into the unit. That will disable the clutch and the pulley will spin freely. You also need to replace the serpentine belt.
