Tools; Mainly a 10mm socket, ratchet and extension. Remove the top battery cover by pulling straight up. Use the 10mm socket to loosen the nuts on the + and - battery terminal connectors. Wiggle the connectors back and forth and pull them off the battery. Look around the bottom of the battery box, there may be a plastic wedge with a bolt thru it clamping the battery down. If so, remove it with the ratchet and extension. Drop your new battery in and reverse the procedure. Now the worse problem, your car will probably need to have a throttle adaptation performed if it is a gas burner or it will run rough until it "relearns" the proper settings.

My 2003 Chevy Silverado's engine died while driving, engine will crank but not start

The battery starter and alternator would only affect cranking.
Someone will need to find out if it is spark or fuel related to know which system to inspect.

97 Passat. Running well, then all of a sudden,

The battery terminals need cleaning.
Remove the battery cables and clean the cable clamps and the battery posts.
Probably won't need a boost to start.

99 volkswagen passat starts, then stalls, won't keep idle

I am having a similar problem on a 2003 Volkswagon Passat 1.8L 4 cylinder manual engine. My batter (after 10 years of service) died about a month ago. When the engine is cold and I start it up the engine (if I do not carefully add gas to rev the engine) will idle at around 200 to 400 RPM and then stall. The problem does not occur after the engine has been going for more than about 90 seconds. No check engine light is on. Ideas anyone?
