There is some work involve in replacing rear main seal, seal sit in the rear of the engine block, the transmission will have to be remove, and the fly wheel to get to the rear main seal.If you have never removed a engine or transmission, it might be best to pay and have some one do it for you.

well it is a 2 piece seal that doesnt require the removal of the ttrans, but the starter and oil pand along with the rear main cap would need to be removed...... not all that hard just takes time, I just did one in my 89 comanche withthe 4.0 inline 6 no need to remove tranny

Sounds like the rear main oil seal on your motor is leaking. In order for it to be replaced, the transmission has to be removed. Not an easy task for the backyard mechanic.

1994 jeep cherokee laredo using lots of oil. Believe it's spewing out when I drive 'cause found lots of oil on wheel covers. Someone said it's probably front seal. Before I take it to...

I dont see how the oil made its way to the wheel covers, but as for the oil loss, it sounds like a broken seal, more than likely your from main or crankshaft seal, that equieres mechanics expertise and tools to replace, no choie but to take it into the shop.
Good luck.

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Oil leaking from the flywheel. Is this the crankshaft oil seal? How dificult to replace. Any good websites with drawings for reference?

Very likely it's the rear seal. You will have to remove the transmission from the jeep in order to gain access to and change that seal.

Bad rear axle bearing and seal on a 2000 jeep grand

the bearing does not always have to be really bad for the seal to fail. Centrifugal force will throw axle grease outward where it gets on the rotor. That can make it feel like the rotor is out of round. If grease got on the brake pads I'd replace them and perhaps even the rotor. As far as the caliper being frozen, possible....check it out when you have it apart. You can have more than one shoe untied at the same time. Not always, but it can happen.
When replacing the seal make sure you put some grease on the lip before putting the axle back in. by doing that it won't fail from dry running before the diff lube reaches it.

How do I check the fluid in the bell housing on a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The fluid that is inside of your torque converter, which is located in the bell housing is your transmission fluid.. If your tranny fluid level is good, then the fluid inside of your torque converter is good...Now if you are leaking fluid from that area, it could be either your front seal that is inside the bell housing, or your rear main oil seal......

Cost to replace rear main seals on 2001 jeep gr. cher. ltd.

Actually yeah you are in luck that combination only requires dropping the oil pan. The seal is actually fairly easy to do it yourself, if your inclined. Parts about $20.00 and it's book rate is 5 hours. around here shops charge around $85/hour. About $500.00 out the door or under $50.00 if you want to get greasy. Here's a good picture guided step by step on a Jeep CJ with a 4.0 liter, yours is pretty much the same:

Transmission quit moving no noise, nothing grinding etc..

If it doesn't move forward or backward, then the pump or torque converter are likely bad. First put it in drive with the rear wheels up. Pull out the speed sensor in the overdrive unit( rear housing on the trans) and look in the hole to see if the output shaft is turning. This will tell you if this is a trans problem or a transfer case problem. If it is turning but the rear drive shaft isn't, inspect the transfer case. If the output shaft isn't turning, hook up a pressure gauge to the transmission and check for line pressure. If line pressure is low, replace the pump. If line pressure is good, replace the torque converter.
