Hello, You may have a ignition lock cylinder failure, The two wires coming off the lock cylinder will break and the resistence signal from the key will not get to the computer. To repair you need to replace the lock cylinder, get a new key with the same resistence value as your old key. This is not a simple task. The driver air bag. steering wheel, air bag coil, signal light switch, key buzzer switch have to come out, The wires from the lock cylinder run down inside the steering column. Hope this helps you.

Outstanding, just remember you have violated the vehicle security system and no longer have vehicle security from theft, all they have to do is break the steering wheel lock and hot wire the ignition switch and away they go............. Good luck walking

1998 cadillac deville wont start cause starting disable remove key message shows up. What can i do to to fix it

First try another key if you have one.
If that doesn't work then remove the negative wire, wait a few minutes, reconnect and try.
If that doesn't work then you might have broken cable to the ignition switch.

My 1998 cadillac deville wont start when i turn the key. Starting disable remove key shows up. What can i do to fix it

You likely have a faulty ignition lock cylinder or a problem with the body control module. For some reason, the vehicle thinks it's being stolen and has disabled the starter and the fuel system.

Usually means the chip in the key has failed, or the sensor in the key lock. Have you tried a spare key ?

I have a 1998 cadillac deville that when I start it, It runs fine, but when I turn it off and try to restart it, It won't start, says starting dissabled, remove key, but if you let it set for awhile it...

If you are getting a starting disabled message, it's an indication that your security system is rejecting your ignition key. Your car is equipped with the VATS security system which requires a key with a resistor attached (small chip). Over time the sensor inside the cylinder will not recognize the key. Usually a new key will fix the problem. In more serious cases, it's the cylinder itself that's bad and needs replacement.

98 deville displayed check fuel guage later the display read starting disabled what is the problem

most of the time when we see a starting disabled there is a problem with the pass key system, this system includes the key and the ignition cylinder lock assembly. you wil most likely have to replace the cylinder lock assembly to cure this problem.

Have your key checked, there is a chip in the key that that will stop the car from starting if it has gone bad.

I'm having a problem trying to get my car started when I try to turn it on starting disabled appears up why?i

The key resistor may be dirty if it has that type of key. I have this type of key on my 1997 Cadillac Deville.

If all else fails, maybe take it to the dealer to see if you can have the key checked out for compatibility with your vehicle.

I understand that multiple fobs have to be programmed into the computer if they don't work right with the vehicle.

My 1998 cadillac deville wont start it says starting disabled on the dash how do i get it to start

Hello, You probably have failed (broken) wire(s) coming from the ignition lock cylinder to the security system. To repair you need to replace the ignition lock cylinder, a new key with the same resistor. no programming required. Hope this helps

My 98' deville wont start whenever i put the key in the ignition all the gauges lite up but engine wont start. The l.e.d display tells me "starting disablledremove key...i have no idea what to do..

The resistor chip in the key may be damaged or the sensor in the ignition may be damaged. You can have the ignition replaced or disable the theft deterent by hard wiring in the proper resistors. Search the cadillac forums for details on how to do this.
