Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.
PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.

What you are describing is a security theft alarm problem. If you checked out what was mentioned above and the car still starts and shuts down again you can first double check by looking for a flashing theft light after you tried to start. If it is flashing put on the emergency brake and shut off key and then try to start again. If it fires up and stops just leave the key on in run position and go have a coffee. Come back in about 15 minutes and if the theft light isn't flashing any more just shut off key and start normally. The car will now start. Over the past 5 years I have rebooted the computer on at least 100 of these cars and this is the fix procedure.
The problem usually starts by removing a electical item such as a gauge cluster etc without first disconnecting the battery. Do not work on these cars where anything gets unplugged with the battery hooked up.
