Transmission generally takes a bit less than two quarts, Use 75/90 gear lube in that (in very cold climates you can add a small amount of automatic trans fluid to keep it flowing on cold starts) Transfer case takes a bit over one quart and takes dextron mercon 3. When filling either, fluid is full when on a level surface it begins to come out of the fill hole while filling. When changing either, always make sure you can open the fill plug before draining so you know you can replace what you removed.

1992 5 speed Trans will the trash and transfer

If you're asking whether the transmission and transfer case will work without fluid the answer is NO. If you attempt to use it without the proper fluid/lubricant you will possibly ruin both.

1992 jeep wrangler 5 speed 4 cylinder shifts has

won't, not want , right?
the xfr case rear tail shaft is dead.
the 5speed box , must be in gear, is it, did you confirm it , by checking the 5speed, shifter bottom linkage that it really is in gear, did you try all 5 gears?
that be first , then see if the transfer case fails.
same way. same tests.

your post is a contradiction.
if the input to the xfr spins, the output must too, in 2wd mode. (both)
if not the xfr case has issues.
or simple linkage.

What kind of fluid does a 5 speed transmission take in a 1994 jeep wrangler

Transmission (standard):
- 80 weight gear oil but most recomend Redline MT 90 to protect the interals better. 75W90 is listed by some but the 80W is just cheaper to find with no ill effects.
AX-5 = 3.3 quarts
AX-15 = 3.25 quarts
BA-10/5 = 2.45 quarts

2000 jeep wrangler are sythetic lubes used in axils and trans

Hello grega1967, your Jeep Wrangler came from the factory with gear oil in the axles and manual transmission, but the transfer case uses transmission fluid. It is a NP231 and your axles are Dana 30 in the front and Dana 35 in the rear. They should have a 4.10 gear ratio due to you having a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder.

I hope this helps,

5th. Gear

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.
