I have a problem on my 2001 Xterra. I have the keys and the remote, but sometime it just won't start. All the lights come on the dash but it won't start. Any suggestions?

check the ground leg to your engine.. it runs off the neg. battery terminal. will connect to frame and engine.. pull it off, wire brush it put it back.. you radio will work, 'cause it draws much less current, and is grounded in dash.
Hello. Thank God for autozone. go back there with the car and ask them to sell you the alternator wire for your vehicle and then ask them to help you install it [a free service of theirs]
Either he's talking about the field wire plug on the alternator or the battery positive feed wire , field wire is usually a two wire plug and the battery wire is single large wire around 8 gage or so. look for loose connection at either of these wire locations...
It may be a fuse, but I think that all the dash lights are on the same fuse and if they work, then there is a bulb located inside the rear view that needs to be accessed to be replaced. I would check all fuses with key on and lights on, both sides with a test light, and if all read good then it'll be the bulb.
You don't want to turn the security system completely off, besides there really is no need to. To arm and disarm the vehicle simply use the key in the drivers door. When you turn the key and lock the car the system will arm after about 30 seconds. When you come back to the car and unlock the car with the drivers door lock cylinder the system will unarm, just the same as if you were using the remote. If the system is unarmed and it still wont start you probably have a NATS issue with the key. This is different than simply disarming. You can't shut off or disarm the NATS system.
