Check your fuel selector valve for proper working condition. The internal valve may be stuck.

You are right. There are three pumps. It sounds like the transfer pump in the front tank is bad. The in tank pumps just supply the high pressure pump to keep it primed. You need the front pump.

A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

all you need to do is listen to hear the tank switching valve is working. It will make a soft noise under the rear cab section with the key on with the engine off. zif you do hear it sounding the switch your tank unit for that one tank you try to switch to is a fault. Sorry no illustrated diagrams are on hand, just knowledge

Why is gas shooting out of gas cap?

you have 2 options
1--- put the fuel return line into the tank you are using
2--- install a balance line between tank 1 and tank 2 so that the fuel back to tank1 is allowed to balance back into tank 2

properly set up the tanks should be connected so that the fuel gauge reads the total fuel in the tanks and there is a need for only one fuel pump

Fuel gage not working

when i had my 91 ford, the front tank gauge woul not work, but the back one did. i discovered that the wire plug on top of the tank had deteriorated and losing connection. if you change that, it may help it start working again.

1991 FORD F150 DUAL TANKS,GAS LEAKING OUT OF ONE TANK FROM ( GAS CAP )

Have the same truck and had the exact same problem. Mine spilled out the front tank. Ford did a recall on this problem. They put valves on the lines outside the tanks. Mine had already been done so that was not the problem. The pumps have valves inside for the return lines. I replaced the rear pump, didn't fix it. Replaced the front pump and Voila ... it was fixed. Bad valve in the front pump return line.

If you have dual tanks, like I have, the there is a mechanical fuel selector valve that both tanks hook to. When it fails, it usually fails so you can't get fuel out of the front tank. If you haven't tried yet, put some fuel in the back tank and give it a try. If the truck runs again, you need to swap out the shuttle valve.
