Being diesel and its age i would recommend using a 10/40 or if its burning oil,say a pint every 1000 miles then use 20/50 most of the multigrades will be petrol and diesel.

How do i change the heater matrix on a peugeot 405 grd and take out the dashboard

Hi

On paper the procedure for this does indeed involve removing the entire dashboard and it really is a nightmare of a job to do. Having worked on this model before I can however give you this tip.

On the 405 the heater matrix can be disconnected from the engine side as it is connected to the coolant system at the bulkhead. If you then take out the glovebox assembly on the passenger side you will find enough room to work the matrix out towards you.

The only problem is that it is very slightly obstructed by the dash itself when you go to slide it out. If you want to avoid a day and a half of labour all you have to do is take a slight nick - no more than one inch out of the dash which is way down by the passengers feet and really not something you are going to notice a great deal.

The whole heater matrix will then slide out. The matrix can be changed by this method in around an hour. For the sake of an inch of plastic which you are really not going to notice this is the method I would advise.

The alternative is complete removal of the dash assembly for which you will need a service manual and at least a day and a half of your time not to mention the potential problems that occur from removing a dash - upsetting electrics - heater controls etc ........

Hope you find this useful. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.
