I placed it in park....got out to open our gate....then got in and applyed the brake and dropped the gear stick to drive (it felt loose) I knew something was wrong...it was all the way down and it read N (nutral) so I put the gear stick in P (park) and the gear never changed - it stayed in N (nutral). Now the gear stick wont move at all - its locked in the park position but the truck is in nutral. ???

Look in the owners manual their is a place to stick your key or a screw driver to release the safety switch when you apply the brake to shift out of park, it could be the stop light at the brake peddle.
The s-types have a lot of issues sticking in park when the car is parked on an incline, sometime you can rock the vehicle and release it from park.
They had many issues with the J-gate assemblys and also the shifter cables. If the caris on an incline and you are able to remove it from park then in future you can apply the handbrake before putting the vehicle in park and that will take care of the issue rather than spending tons of money with the stealer. Do not force the shifter as there is a plastic piece which is part of the j-gate that will break and you will then need to purchase a j-gate assembly
If the lights are working, it means the the brake pedal switch is working. The other possibility is that the electric gate at the shifter lever has become disconnected, or is malfunctioning. This gate opens (is triggered) when the brake is applied. Look for the solenoid at the base of the shift lever, and test it with a voltmeter to see if it receives voltage when the brake is applied.
Because of the similarity to other plugs and fasteners on the transmission, the potential for loosening an incorrect fastener, instead of the level plug, exists. There is a risk for internal transmission damage if the improper fastener is removed.
Removal of the reduction gear brake band bolt can cause total loss of drive or a substantial reduction in the performance of the transmission.
Removal of the parking pawl rod plate retaining bolt (located next to the XYZ switch) will result in problems/gear lever movement restrictions.
Raise and support the vehicle.
Connect the approved Jaguar diagnostic system.
Make sure J-Gate shift selector is in the Park position (P).
With the engine running and the foot brake applied, move the J-Gate shift selector through "P-R-N-D-4-3-2" and back to the "P" position to circulate the automatic transmission fluid until the temperature reaches 30 to 40°C (86 to 104°F) on the approved Jaguar diagnostic system.
When the automatic transmission fluid temperature reaches 35°C (95°F) check that the selector lever is in the "P. position raise the vehicle.
