I have a 1997 GMC Sierra Z71 4X4. Recently I had the transmission rebuilt and the crank shaft position sensor replaced. It will not shift out of 2nd and 3rd gear when it is running. Those are the only 2 forward gears it has. Now it will not start at all. I checked the spark and it is there and bypassed the oil pressure switch so the fuel pump is constantly runnin and still will not start what is wrong?

SOURCE: low oil pressure

It is a plu located directly above your filter on the oil filter adapter housing.. its about 3 inches long with wires plugged into it.. takes a special little socket to remove it...10 dollars at auto stores for the socket...

SOURCE: 1996 GMC K1500 Pickup Starting Problem

i would try a fuel filter first. the fuel gauge going crazy is most likely the sender they go bad and eventually stop working. the bummer is you have to replace the fuel module. these aftermarket are about 200 bucks. the module comes with the pump and sender which is the next part you want to look at. gm has some issues with the harness to the fuel pump externaly. it actualy will melt and start to lose conection. i would check this by visualy inspecting the plug on top of the tank. unplug it and take a look. if it is at all disscolored replace the pump (module). the new pump comes with a replacement harness (make sure its in the box)hope this helps and good luck

SOURCE: 1987 Chevy Suburban 350 2wd not starting or running right

What size engine do you have in it? And, how many miles on it?? Well, I guess it really doesn't matter. At first thought it sounds like you are experienceing a fuel problem, and changing the throttlebody didn't solve your problem. I would start by looking and checking my fuel delivery system. The fact that you had to spray gas into the throttlebody tells me that fuel is not getting there. I would start with the least expensive thing to fix first. Check your gas filters. These are often , OFTEN, overlooked as a sorce of problems, and are rarely changed and often overlooked, and are the problem alot of the time. If that dosen't cure your problem check your fuel pump. Make sure it is delivering the proper pressure. I would bet your problem would be solved, but if it's not then next I would check the electrical components of your fuel system.

SOURCE: Transmission wont shift into 3rd gear.

I had this exact problem on my 2005 5.3L Suburban... It would shift into 1 and 2 and reverse, but not 3 and 4.

I took it into a transmission shop, and he said the 3-4 shift solenoid was burned up. Wanted 1500 to fix it. Far from home, so I have to pay it.

In my 95 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 just had the transmission rebuilt 3 weeks ago I was driving down the road and it shifted 1st to 2nd fine but from 2nd to 3rd it reved up all the way to 4500 rpms before...

That could be a perfect reason to take it back to the shop where it was just repaired for repeat service. Either that or you spun out in the mud.

Transmission shifts down abruptly when accelerating.

It most likely is a transmission issue, a internal issue inside the transmission.

I have a 1996 GMC Sierra with an automatic transmission and just recently as i had been driving for about two hours it dropped out of overdrive for about ten minutes or so then re engaged. then i noticed...

The filter has nothing to do with your issues.

Check for a loose or misadjusted brake switch, for the OD issues.

Maybe Electronic,Sensors or Selenoids,on the shift issues.

I have a GMC and I have replaced all the sensors

You may have a restriction in the exhaust, like a clogged catalytic. Converter. The mass air flow and the fuel pressure were good ideas too. lee
