I replaced the starter on my daughters 2002 lancer and did it the hard way by crawling under the car to figure out where it was first, and then working underneath to get it out. After performing the procedure I realized there is a much easier way to do it.
- The starter is located on the back side of the engine under the intake manifold towards the drivers side of center. It is very difficult to see from the top with everything still assembled.
Replacing the easy way:
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove the plastic air filter box first. After it is off you can easily see the starter down by the shifter linkage bracket.
3. Remove two bolds holding the shifter linkage bracket so it can be moved out of the way.
4. Remove wiring connectors from back of starter solenoid. One connector is just a slide on, the other main wire is held on by a metric nut. That one may look impossible to get at, but if you configure a 1/4 drive ratchet with the right sized deep well socket you have room to work it through a cut out in large mounting bracket that you will see below. I'm thinking the Japanese engineers put the cut out there for this purpose.
5. Remove two starter mounting bolts and allow the starter to slide down and back so as to rest on the bracket below.
6. Walk around to the passenger side of engine and reach down under intake manifold to pull starter up and out.
7. Reverse procedure to reassemble.
8. Done without ever crawling under the car!

It is behind the motor (parallel to it)bolted to the transmission, under the intake manifold. You may have to take the tube from the air cleaner to the throttle body off to get a good look at it

Where is the transmission relay at on a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer ES?

The transmission does not have a fuse, only a power-up relay located in the under hood fuse panel, near the front of the panel.

If there is a problem with this relay, your transmission will reduce to fail safe mode only. Fail safe is the mechanical-only control which leaves you with Park, Reverse and 3rd gear only, provided there are no internal failures.

What exactly is the problem you are having?

Can't find where starter moter is in1994 lancer 1.5 l

The starter is usually located with one end of it placed into the bell housing where the flywheel is. The flywheel is a very large disk type of gear and measures about 14-to 20 inches in diameter. Search under hood for this housing case which is bolted towards the back of the engine . The starter will be mounted to that.

Where is the starter located.... the starter went out on my car and i cant locate where its at

They are usually on the bottom of the front of the engine. Not exactly in the front, so go back a little bit toward the back of the engine. Your hot side battery wire leads to the starter and alternator. Find the wire that goes toward the front of the vehicle. Follow that wire and you should run into the starter.

Need a picture of location of sparkplugs of 2002 lancer

Don't have a picture but I can tell you. They are located on the back end of the engine, pointing towards the windsheild. Mitsubishi made it hard for us. There are no wires, instead there a coils that are diamond shaped on top. Unscrew the one screw and just pull it straight out. You have to remove the top plastic silencer that is in line of your intake in order to do any of this.
