Sounds as if it is the starter and it needs replacement. During this time i would also look to make sure the battery cables are fine. Make sure they are not corroded and properly connected. Generally when i replace a starter i always change the positive and negative cables. If you need further assistance please let me know.
Most likely a battery problem. There may be enough power in the battery to illuminate lights, play the radio, etc, but a lot of power is required to crank the engine over. You have a couple of choices on what to do next: 1st, make sure the battery terminals have a tight connection, and there is no corrosion visible (this can cause your problem) If connections are clean and tight, get a jump start and bring the car to a parts store where they can check the battery and charging system. If you can't get a jump start, remove the battery and bring it to the store for a free check of it's condition. I'm guessing from here that the battery is shot. Is it the original? Let me know if you need more help.
