Yesterday the Brake light and the ABS light stayed on when I started up my car (2001 Jimmy). I drove it home from the store (approx 3/4 mile) and parked it. Later I started the car up and the lights did not stay on. This morning again the lights did not stay on and I drove 20 miles to work. Should I take it to the shop to get checked out? Or do you think it was just a fluke thing?

Hey Penny, there could be a bunch of things going on , try disconnecting the battery ,negative first then positive and let it sit for a few min. 10 or so then reconnect and see if every thing goes back to normal ,do you have any check engine lights on ? or stored codes in the OBD computer.?

If the caliper is not defective, it could be the rubber flex hose going to the caliper.

I had a very similar problem in my 93 town car. I ended up changing the Calipers, rotors, and pads. This stopped the grabbing, but still every once and a while the ABS light would come on and grip the brakes on me. I ended up pulling the ABS relay from under the hood.and the problem has stayed away. The only thing is that now i dont ABS brakes. Its a heavy car tho and i havent had an issue yet. Also, if you decide to do this, the relay way mis marked in my car, when i pulled the ABS relay, the Air shocks went out instead. Had to pull one at a time until the anti lock light came on, then i knew i had it.

Not a booster problem. what bad noises? abs problmes wont make noises, unless its the pump operating. ck the mushy pedal, that will maybe fix all problems. I dont think its related to the 2/4wd lights?

Did you have the ABS sensors checked ?? The brake fluid level when low also activates the Brake and ABS lights?? Drive truck to an AutoZone store and ask to have computer codes scanned. This is a free service for all customers. This will help you to pinpoint the problem.

The charging system (alternator ) is not working ! Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop

Do a complete tune up.

Check and see if your alternator is charging
Low voltage will cause those lights to come on, as the computer is shutting down.

To check your alternator you will need a volt meter... WITH the engine running you should have about 14 volts coming out. IF NOT you need to replace the Alternator!

Most likely our alternator has gone bad and that's why all the idiot lights were on!
This is approx. a $150-$300 job to replace the alternator and the belts!

this is a abs pump problem. common on these circuits get "unsoldered" from vibration. if you feel like you can solder conections its a good couple hour job and sometimes things get burned out from voltage spikes. good luck jimmy rate as fixya thanx
