I have a Toyota Ist that i bought 4 months ago. The problem I have is the noise whenever I use the car brakes. I have taken the car severally to different mechanics (at least 5 times!!) and I am at my wits end. I even changed the break pads and bought new ones. Each mechanic I go to says there is nothing with the brake disk or break pads. What then could be causing the loud screeching noise? Can an ABS problem do this?

Well, when I have a screeching problem, I try to use Wagner Thermoquiet brake pads that have the shim built in, instead of standard ones.

They seem to stop more quietly than other brands.

The technicians that say that there is nothing wrong are probably just measuring the thickness of the brake discs, and the thickness of the brake pads, and maybe look at the surface of the brake discs for glazing, and don't want to replace parts unnecessarily.

So, I would ask them about this problem and see if they can install the Thermoquiet Wagner brake pads to rectify the problem.

ABS has more to do with pulsing 5 to 6 times a second when trying to come to a halt to avoid locking the brakes. I don't think that it is the cause of your screeching sound coming from the front.

My Trac off light came on 2002 Toyota solar .just had full brake service 3 months ago

Traction control uses several things to work probably including brakes, wheel speed sensors, etc. If only the Trac off light is on then there is a problem with the traction control system.

A metalic noise related to the break pad comes from front right wheel. Two months ago, I changed both the front wheels break pads and the noise started from last month. why it is happening? what is the...

Its possible the brake pads have worn down again, if they are and , obviously , you need to change them. Pay attention to the brake caliper pistons, check that they are not sticking or seized and also the caliper slider. Free off these parts. Hope that helps

I am thinking about buying a 1996 Toyota Corolla sedan with 71,000 miles. In negotiating the price, I am concerned because it has the original TIMING BELT and while the front disc brakes were changed the...

Definitely do the timing belt & plugs if not done already! Depending on how the job goes $300-$500. Rear drum brakes on these cars have a tendency to last a VERY long time(I've seen 150,000 miles) because the majority of the braking gets done in the front.

Engine knock

The idle issue is normal. The idle is controlled by the ECU. There are no adjustments for the idle. Regarding the knocking noise, that could be several things, and I am hesitant to comment without hearing it. Take it to a Toyota Dealer & have a tech listen to it. We are very good at identifying noises on the service drive.
