93 k1500 5.0, had a buddy fix an oil leak. stopped the leak. he changed the oil, but he used 15w-40 instead of 5w-30. only ran it for 50 miles. talked to dealer, they told me dump oil, change oil filter.having trouble keeping the the truck on when coming to a complete stop. when idling sometimes just peters out. just prior to dying i hear a hissing noise. any of these things related or do i have two separate problems? any help on these things would be appreciated.

Well maintained a fleet of trucks and ran 20-40W all year long.Years ranging from 88-06 and never has a problem.Sounds like you may have a bad vacume line. Could be a problem with your EGR valve or the IAC (idle Air Control) Valve if equipted.Would start checking the vacume hoses first.Well hope this helps and good luck.

I have 2006 Toyota Highlander, 3.3 VTT-I, with 120,000+ miles on it. I recently got an oil change done here in Sicily. They put 10W-40 motor oil in it. Will this ruin my engine and should I drain it...

with 120,000 + miles on it the 10w-40 oil is correct oil to use
If it was in my shop it would have been 15w-40
older engines need a heavier grade oil to compensate for wear and to keep the oil pressure to the maximum when idling the 5w-30 is for new engines or engines operating in temperatures of 0 or minus temperatures

1995 isuzu trooper manual transmission is leaking fluid from the gear box bolt. i was wondering if this is motor oil or is there transmission fluid somewhere i need to fill or check?

Hello smeet3992: The transmission uses 5w-30 for tempretures up to 95 degreese in tempreture. Uses 15w-40 for all tempretures greater then 50 degreese. If you are in an area that has extreme fluctuation in tempretures I would use the 15w-4o engine oil. I also senrt a picture of where to check the oil at. Make sure you pull the right plug. The reverse idler pin has the same size bolt head.
