Hi if the clicking noise you hear is coming from the bottom of the engine then this indicates the problem is with the starter, you can try hitting it with a hammer a couple of times (the starter that is not the car) this should get it starting if you need to use it.

once the starter has been replaced you will have no problems starting the car.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

plz could you rate this post as i have loads of unrated posts
thanks

2001 chevy impala wont start just make a click sound started fine last night this morning nothing pls help its not the security thing either had that fix on the recall

Before you trouble shoot a car always charge your battery. It sounds like you have a loose Battery Cable to the Starter to me. This has happen to me that's how I know. To confirm this pull on the positive battery cable while someone else tries to start your car. Did it start? If it did not start then it's between your Battery and your Starter. Let's now check your Battery. Fully charge it again and make sure you have 12.6 Volts if your Battery does not take a charge it has a bad cell and needs changing. If your Battery turns out good then you have to check your starter or Solenoid and if one is bad change them both. Remove it and have an auto store check it to see which one is bad. I hope this helps you out. Let me know how you make out.

2006 Freestar. Ran fine last night. Wouldn't start

How many volts does your battery currently have? A cheap multimeter can tell you; I'm not saying the crew at Advance Auto aren't on top of their game, but they do work at Advance Auto... Anything less than 12v DC indicates a problem, and the battery probably won't have enough juice to turn your motor over with less than 10-11v. If your battery voltage is >12v it sounds like you've got a bad starter solenoid (some vehicles integrate these with the starter itself, some do not). Try giving it a few whacks with a rubber mallet or a hammer handle (aka the wooden part).

It sounds like you may have a bad starter or maybe even a bad ignition switch. Then again there is always the possibility that you may just have a bad connection some where. I hope this helps you out.

It sounds like you either need new starter brushes or a new starter. If you turn the key and the starter just clicks, try tapping gently on the starter with a metal bar. If the starter then turns over you should take it out and replace the brushes or put in a new or rebuilt starter. When you have to start tapping on the starter you may only have a few starts left.

Last night car would not start was making

you may need some power steering fluid or it could be a computer fault. the clicking was a low battery not being able to turn the starter motor but it should not effect your steerin. try some fluid first if that doesn't work take it to a garage. it could be something simple like a loose wire.

Try smacking the starter with a blunt object ( hammer or something ) Smack it several times while cranking. It may free up. Listen for the click at the starter. Its prabably a bad starter. Common symptom your describing. If it does start replace the starter.

Next time it won't start turn headlights on and see if they dim when you turn key to start, if they dim its most likely starter, if they don't dim possible starter switch, Have you tried to start it in neutral position? Try that, if it starts in neutral than its park neutral switch, if not could be starter switch, Just make sure you chk. all fuses and any relays associated with ignition first.
