The cd player in my 1998 cadillac catera will not play a cd. it will load the cd then the screen reads "cd initializing". Shortly after the screen displays "cd error". what is wrong?

The mechanism has worn to the point that the tracking is no longer effective. So, you need to buy a new cd player or even a used one from a salvage yard to replace the old one.
