I have a 1988 Mazda 626 turbo edition. just recently i was driving along when i took my foot off of the gas to go around a turn and when i tried to accelerate again and the rpm's just went up to about 3,000 and the car would not move as if it is in neutral. i then put it in park shut it off waited about 10 seconds started it again put it in drive, it drove about another mile or 2 then did the same thing, what could be wrong?

are all the spark plugs have spark

must remove head and change head gasket make sure matting surfaces are clean and free of old gasket materials

try the fusable link near tyhe battery

Have you checked your fuel filter? Sounds like a fuel problem. Start with the filter and then check the pump.

It sounds more like timing. anymore info would be helpful. And any leak should be taken care of.

check power on rear light positive terminal.rear light fuses,or ground,..lee

Hi am just up the road on the SSC, it is easier to remove the alternator from underneath the vehicle & if you look under the carpet under the rear seat there is a plate which gives you access to the fuel pump cover in the tank. The pump can be accessed from there. If you want the workshop Manuals I have just uploaded them.

mazda are real tough,just keep an eye on fluid levels.

plugs/wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, maf, bad fuel pressure reg. depends on what it drives like, hard to answer without driving it
