Start by checking the fuse and the bulbs. Then check the brake light switch. It is located under the dash.If you follow the brake peddal arm up under the dash you will be able to see the little plunger that contacts the brake arm.

On my 96 accord the brake light dont work i have checked the fues and the bulbs do u have any advice and can anyone tell me how to test the brake light switch

The brake light switch is located at the break peddle..........To test you have to remove and do a resistance check. When the button on the switch is in you shouldn't get any restance but with the button out as if the brakes were applied you should...........Hope this helps you out.

I have replaced both brake light bulbs but they still won't work, the third brake light in the rear window does work.

Definitely sounds like a fuse. Keep your bulbs from the original lights. A blown fuse is black, and usually has the resistor blown to pieces and rattling around inside the plastic casing =) Good Luck!

The rear brakes on my 1996 Lincoln VIII don't work...the brake pads do not need to be replaced according to the mechanic...he did bleed the lines but the dashboard brake light is on indicating a problem...

The light means you are low on fluid now. If your rear brakes are not working you have a master cylinder or proportioning valve problem. You may also have a leak at the rear.

Car brake lights won t turn off when car is shut down 1996 Honda Odyssey

It should be your brake light switch. There is a little plate welded to the arm of the pedal that has a hole with a rubber stopper. The rubber stopper is most likely missing, or damaged. You should be able to take a flashlight and see the plate and the switch. If the hole is plugged up, you will need the brake light switch, if not, replace the plug.
