I own a 2002 chevy silverado. When I start up, the tow/haul light comes on. It does not respond to the switch at all when I try to turn it off. It also feels like it is engaged. After driving a few miles it goes off on its own.

switch is bad, they get dirt and grim in them and will stick. try unpuging it. pull switch out and unpug it, if it still happens with it unplugged, see dealer
You either have a bad switch or the wires have lost contact. The tow/haul switch is part of the shift lever and is not replaceable without changing the shift lever. The electrical connector is located inside the steering column covers. These wires have been known to part.
check all your fuses. If your lucky you might find one the is blown and could be related If not fuse related then you need to remove the platic steering column
cover. Under there at the end of the shift lever you will find two
small wires that are for the tow haul button. These wires get brittle
and break over time from shift level movement it seems. You will have
to repair the broken wire and you should be good to go!
I had that problem yesterday and researched the web. Found out underneath the steering column, take the bottom plastic cover off, there is a orange wire for the tow/haul. It's actually 2 white wires with orange covering. It was broke.
Splice the two wires back together and it works great...
tow haul mode will not work on my 2005 chevy silverado, the light will not come on or anything and i tried pushing it while driving and the tranny still shifted the same..
I had a problem with my tow/haul button not working. I came to find out that the gear shift had cut the wire running to the button in two. You may want to check that.
