Key wont turn the switch to start the car, you can take the key out but when you put it back in it will not turn to start the car. my car is a 2009 nissan sentra

Hiya, First thing I need to ask is:

Is the steering lock on? reason I ask is I have been out to many callouts for this fault and it turned out that the customer had grabbed the steering wheel getting out of the car to use it as leaverage and inadvertantly turned the wheel until it "clicked" putting the steering lock on. The way to unlock it is to turn the wheel in the same direction as you did when getting out of the car while trying to turn the key. Worth a crack.
If not post a reply and I'll ask some more questions to find the solution.

    I am having a issue with my 2009 Nissan Sentra, The ignition wont turn, I tried using the key but that will not work either. When I turn it my dash board light comes on with the key, as if my car is not sensing my key is in the car.

    Could this be the steering wheels is locked or I need to hit the brakes and turn it. Someone told me to disconnect the battery and put it in again and it will reset.

suspect a fault with the ignition switch on the back of the steering lock barrel,but without a look i couldnt tell you correctly .Suggest you ask a local mechanic but if iam right then i would fit a push switch under steering column

Once I put the key in to start the car the key wont turn.
You may have to releave the tension on the steering wheel. Some times when we stop our car, we do so with the steering wheel turn, as result, the ignition key will not turn. To solve this probem, turn the steering wheel in the direction of the pressure on the wheel, while at the same time you turn the key.

try turning the steering wheel back and forth while gently trying to turn the key, sometimes if the wheel is binding, it wont allow the key to turn.

Lost the remote, since the alarm was activated the car wont start even though i still have the key. everything turns on except the ignition. is there a bypass. i am stuck out of town.
