1st you'll need to drop that gas tank from under your car. at gas cap there are 3 scrwes you will need to remove to disconnect the inlet hose @ return hose. after that you will have to remove gas tank holding straps[metal straps remove the 2 bolts that hold those straps up.[caution; the tanks weight depends on how much fuel is in it]after you drop down straps you will have to undo the plug in for fuel pump, disconnect the electrical plug in. then you'll need to disconnect the filler @ return hoses from tank. then you have to disconnect the fuel lines to engine from the tank. [special fuel line removal tool required] after tose are undone from tank, slide tank from under car. the pump casing[top of fuel pump casing] will have to be marked w/chalk or grease pen to assure pump @ fuel lines get installed same way they were disconnected.now to disconnect lock that holds pump into gas tank. w/straight screwdriver positioned on lockringn tap scrwedriver w/hammer to loosen @ turn lockring to unlock fuel pump. after lockring removed, gently remove fuel pump and sending unit attached to pump.install new pump and follow directions reversed to install [lines, electrical connections, do not attempt to start engine until gas is in tank.

Does a 2000 chevy tracker have an electric fuel pump?

Yes , of course it does . all vehicles have them .
The fuel pump is an electric pump that is controlled by the powertrain control module through the fuel pump relay. When the PCM commands the fuel pump to operate, an impeller is driven by an electric motor in the pump assembly. The pump impeller causes the fuel in the tank to be drawn into the fuel pump inlet port. The fuel is then pumped out under pressure through the fuel feed pipe and hoses to the fuel rail and the fuel injectors. The fuel pressure is maintained when the fuel pump is not running by a pressure control valve located within the pump. Excess fuel is returned to the fuel tank by the fuel return pipe and hoses. The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and is a part of the fuel sender assembly. The fuel sender assembly has to be removed from the fuel tank in order to inspect or replace the fuel pump.

I have 2008 GMC sierra 5.3 L with a new fuel pump. And no power to the pump. Any ideas where to look?

Fuel Pump Flow Control Module (FPCM) - LMF
The fuel pump flow control module (FPCM) is a serviceable GMLAN module. The FPCM receives the desired fuel pressure message from the engine control module (ECM) and controls the fuel pump located within the fuel tank to achieve the desired fuel pressure. The FPCM sends a 25 KHZ PWM signal to the fuel pump, and pump speed is changed by varying the duty cycle of this signal. Maximum current supplied to the fuel pump is 15 amps. A liquid fuel pressure sensor provides fuel pressure feedback to the FPCM.
Electronic Returnless Fuel System (ERFS) - LMF
The electronic returnless fuel system is a microprocessor controlled fuel delivery system which transports fuel from the tank to the fuel rails. It functions as an electronic replacement for a traditional, mechanical fuel pressure regulator. A pressure vent valve within the fuel tank provides an added measure of fuel pump flow control module (FPCM). Desired fuel pressure is commanded by the engine control module (ECM), and transmitted to the FPCM via a GMLAN serial data message. A liquid fuel pressure sensor provides the feedback the FPCM requires for Closed Loop fuel pressure control.

How to change the fuel pump on a 1996 Pontiac Transport

For 1996 Pontiac Truck Trans Sport 3.4L SFI 6cyl check this procedure for Fuel Pump... there are two different electric fuel pumps used:
- A medium pressure twin turbine pump for vehicles equipped with Throttle Body Injection (TBI). - A high pressure roller vane pump for vehicles equipped with Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI).
(see Figure 1)

d7f6f20.jpg

Fig. 1: View of the fuel pump assembly and related components
The fuel pump is mounted to the fuel sender assembly inside the fuel tank. The fuel is pumped to the engine at a specified flow and pressure by the fuel pump. Excess fuel is returned to the fuel tank by the return pipe. The fuel pump delivers a constant flow of fuel to the engine even during low fuel conditions and aggressive vehicle maneuvers.

CAUTION When working on or near the fuel tank, be sure to observe the information molded on the bottom of the tank.
Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
(see Figure 2)

Fig. 2: Exploded view of the fuel pump-to-tank mounting components
  1. Drain and remove the fuel tank.
  2. Remove the fuel sender assembly.
  3. Disassemble the fuel pump strainer and the fuel pump: Note the position of the strainer in relation to the pump.
(see Figure 3)
