You car came with a 4 (2.0 L) and 6 (2.5 L) cylinder engine so here are both diagrams. Just match the numbers for proper plug wire hookup.

1995 Mazda 626 -what is the firing order on a 2,5lt engine? I have # one turned to the top and the timing mark on the crank is right on but the rotor is on #6 plug. Doesn't make sense to me. When I turn it...

I read that the firing order was '1,2,3,4,5,6' which is easy to remember: prev.gif next.gif FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. We changed spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, distributor button, etc. We unbolted the entire distributor assembly and pulled it out from the engine. We now can't get the car to start or run. How do I...

Does "entire distributor aseembly" include the metal gear shaft??
If so, you must remove the distributor again and re-insert it in the proper gear groove.
Normally, you "mark" the distributor and the engine with a marker before you remove the shaft so that you can replace it so the gears mesh in the correct position.

You can use "trial and error" to reposition the distributor or you can:

1. Turn the engine to the "Top Dead Center" (TDC) position so that the distributor rotor points to the #1 cylinder sparkplug wire.
2. The rotor on the distributor shafdt should be positioned to "point" to the #1 sparkplug wire.
3. Re-insert the distributor gear shaft.

Please comment if you need better detail...
