It's very easy, undo screw one end from back of power steering pump, no need to remove pump, and unscrew other end of hose from steering gear box, replace hose and top off with power steering fluid, when you undo power steering hose have a pan to catch the power steering fluid that will drip out.

Is the power steering causing my Yukon to not make tight turns like it usually does?

hello,
If your Yukon is not steering properly then you could have a power pump problem, first thing to check is the fluid level and see if the fluid looks dark and brownish. most of the fluids are red in color. but other things to check are the brakes on the front of the truck and the wheel bearings a long with the steering parts just to make sure everything is in order and safe to drive.

Power steering problem when turning right

I'm not sure if that truck has rack and pinion steering, or a steering sector. In either case, it sounds like you have stuck valve and the hydraulic pressure is fighting you, instead of helping you. When ever you turn the steering wheel the valve is supposed to move and direct the hydraulic oil pressure to help you steer. The valve is built into the sector or the rack and pinion, you may have to replace the assembly. There are companies that recondition those items so you might want to shop around.

1979 GMC TRUCK POWER STEERING RESERVOIR LEAKING FLUID

IF THE RESERVOIR IS LEAKING YOU SHOULD REPLACE THE UNIT. CHECK THE LINES FIRST AND SEE IF ONE OF THE HOSES COULD BE THE PROBLEM. THE LINE THAT IS BOLTED TO THE PUMP IS THE HIGH PRESSURE SIDE THE ONE WITH THE CLAMP IS LOW PRESSURE

Power Steering Fluid Leaking!

should only be 2 hoses coming from and to your PS unit 1 is high pressure and the other is a return line. the Fluid all over the engine compartment is from the fan blowing the fluid,

my suggestion clean the area fill the PS unit up and have someone start the vehicle and watch where the fluid is coming from.

My power steering just quit... literally, just quit, how much does replacement cost, with dealer, independent, self?

Before I spent any money, I would take a close look to see what the problem is. What is the fluid level in the reservoir? Is the high pressure hose leaking that is going to the pump? Have someone turn the wheels from side to side and look for any leaks. If the hose is leaking, then get one from a parts store and replace it. Even if the power steering pump needs replaced, it is not a very hard fix. You can save yourself some hard earned dough!! Hope this helped. Good luck.
