2005 chevy malibu leaking oil from engine, we can see where its comming from but not sure what the part is called. Its above the oil pan. Seems to be a steady leak when engine has been running for a little while.

Its called an oil filter housing adapter gasket, very common problem for it to leak it gets disturbed from the torque applied every time you change the oil filter just not a well thought design it will appear that your oil filter is leaking however it is the 10 dollar gasket on the adapter that gave in

SOURCE: water leaking behind oil pan on a 95 chevy camaro-3.4L

If I rember correctly, there are two freeze plugs in the back of the block, behind the flywheel. They generally dont go bad often because they are pretty much protected. As that angelo guy said, more likely a hose or rear of intake gasket, but you have to look, from here I can't see it!!!

SOURCE: Transmission fluid leak

Could be the bolt are loose or were over tightened and crushed the gasket.Could it be leaking from some other spot and running back while you drive? If so it may be the front seal.

SOURCE: 2004 Chevy Cavalier Oil leak

Replacing an oil pan gasket on a car shouldn't be too difficult for you, say, about an hour or two. As long as you follow some simple guidelines, the leak should be eliminated. Improper tightening or seating of the gasket material can defeat the purpose of your work. Grab a Haynes manual, or a tech guide for your vehicle, and have it handy.

I would suggest tracking the oil leak to ensure that it's not your front seal on your crankshaft. The amount of oil that you describe sounds like a bit much for an undisturbed oil pan gasket.

it is normally located on the top of the engine look at the upper radiator hose and follow that back to the engine and then you will find the thermostat and you can try www.autozone.com to see if they have your car listed for diagrams pictures and step by step instructions if your car is not listed then try your local library they have all the car manuals and even copy them for you

05 malibu leaking oil from rear of engine

This may be from excessive pressure in the sump from blow-by from the compression process . It is from a blocked PCV valve that is not equalising that pressure. I have also known oil leaks to happen because the rear main bearing cap is leaking oil past the join around the bolts (loose) or no sealing compound used in assembling the rear main bearing.. I would look at the PCV valve as it is the cheapest test first.. Check that the oil is not coming from the front gear box seal or torque converter seal.

Coolant leak near oil pan

I would think maybe the water pump is leaking you will have to put it up on jack stands and wipe everything down under the car. Then if you start it for a minute or two shut it off you should be able to see where it's comming from.

How does one check transmission oil in 2005 chevy malibu maxx

You don't yourself. The lube change shop or garage can do this (requires special tools or removal of the pan). for a 2005 you're likely in need of a flush. some models can have a dipstick installed, but its not necessary. Unless you have a serious leak of fluid or shifting issues, it's rare to lose fluid. If you are having issues, then start with a flush and inspection BY A REPUTABLE GARAGE. do not use a dealer or transmission shop, they will always find ways to seprate you from your $$$

1998 Chevy Malibu is using excessive oil. Had an oil change done back in October 2012 . Then checked Oil level in December of 2012 and was about 3/4 low in oil! why ?

first thing check make sure oil pan drain plug tight. check make sure oil filter tight. try tighten oil filter by hand see if turn tighten oil filter clockwise direcction if all is good. how many miles on vechicle.could have oil leaks park vechicle in spot that clean.move vechicle see if you see oil spots on ground if yes.your front timing cover seal leaking oil or rear main oil seal ;eaking.or valve cover gaskets leaking.if find no oil leaks more likely engine burning oil.replace pcv valve.check air filter if you see oil in air filter housing either have bad pcv valve or pcv not getting vacuum make sure pcv valve getting vacuum when engine running vacuum should be felt at pcv if not pcv valve bad or pcv hose disconnected broken or plugged.if pcv valve okay engine has worn piston rings.worn valve seals or guides or oil return holes stopped up thats all possible reasons for engine burning oil.if spark plugs oil fouled engine burning oil.
