The fuel tanks have protective baffles in the fill stem and they block hoses from entering the tank. There is an easy way to remove fuel. Two things you will need to do are Look up the fuel pump RELAY wiring in the Powerbox under the hood and buy a tire valve removal cap. Some tire stem caps made of metal have removal tools incorporated in the stem cap, inexpensive, Walmart or Kmart. Why do you need a tire valve stem cap? To remove the stem valve in the fuel rail test port on the engine. Once this is removed you have an opening for fuel to come out. Remove the valve and slide a rubber hose over the stem and clamp it down. Around a 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch internal diameter hose, long enough to reach an empty gas can. Now you are ready to pump. To pump, remove your fuel pump Relay. Look at your obtained diagrams of the Fuel pump relay Layout. Jump the 2 terminals. Maybe 27 and 34, Look for Yourself as Layouts differ. The fuel pump will pump when jumped. I removed 17 gallons in about 15 Minutes with a blocked pump. Do this on a COLD engine. Outside, well ventilated. It works. Suggest topics like-"Fuelpump Relay Bypass", "2000 Lincoln Town car Powerbox Layout". Or See Autozone Help section on Web after registering your car. Tire stem caps will cost about $3 for 4 pack, fuel hose about $7 for enough. small clamp $?.
normally there is a valve that looks like a tire stem on top of engine. you can turn the key on, but not start car, then take something to push in the stem until fuel comes out. you may have to turn key off again and push the stem in again. when you turn on the key it makes the fuel pump, pump fuel up to the engine. you are trying to get the air out.
good luck
There really isn't a fuel filter on the '01 Rams, not like you'd have on most other vehicles anyway. The only thing filtering the fuel is a sock (yeah, a SOCK)..and it's attached to your fuel pump assembly, which is ever-so-conveniently located inside the gas tank. You _can_ buy a replacement (50-60 bucks at a dealer), but I've never talked to one yet that stock it (most dealers I've contacted about it claim they'll only sell me an entire fuel pump ($225~ give or take...)
Your vehicle does not have a serviceable fuel filter. The 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines that are available in this vehicle have either a fuel pump module or a strainer, both of which are installed inside the tank with the fuel pump assembly. I would not worry about changing or trying to replace these parts unless it is absolutely necessary, and if this is the case, then it would be a great idea to replace the entire fuel pump assembly while you have it removed from the fuel tank.
Would like to know what you did here. DIY fuel pump replacement can be from about $50 to $150. Need make / have tool to remove fuel pump. Have to take assembly apart though, not for amateur. Otherwise have to replace entire assembly. Dealers really soak for this.
In 2005 Subaru moved the fuel filters to the fuel tank for both 4-cyl and 6-cyl cars. What is confusing is the statement in the owner's manual about replacement intervals; the statement actually only applies to 4-cyl cars. Even though the filter is mounted in the tank, this is still a replaceable element on 4-cyl, but not on 6-cyl. The 6-cyl filter element is part of the entire fuel pump assembly (a $300 assembly) and is not sold separately. Therefore the 6-cyl filter is intended to be a "lifetime" part, which really means it gets replaced when the fuel pump fails and the entire pump assembly is replaced.
when An engine stalls while driving . like when you place the gear on mostly on drive.
