I'm trying to remove the plastic center consol off a 2008 Chrysler Sebring. I have the silver bezel from around the shifter off, the AC controls out and 2 screws that look like they hold everything together...but I can't seem to get the large center consol off. My car won't come out of park and I'm going to replace the spring on the pink lever that's to the left of the gear shift knob. Thanks, Rick Williams

shift lock switch. this switch is usually connected to a little box on the brake pedal. Look about half way up the pedal from the foot pad and make sure the wires are still intact.

See if this helps. Someone on LXforums had the same problem with their 300. This solution worked for me as I had the same problem as you with my Chrylser Sebring 2007.

Usually there is a nut on the bottom of a shift knob that needs to be loosened, then the knob just screws off. Use a wrench, if it's hexagonal, if it's just round or there is no nut it may just screw off. It will be really tight though, be prepared to have to really crank on it to get it loose. The new one should just thread back on. You may need to install a nut on the bottom to adjust the rotation of any pattern or gear shift diagram on the new one.

Are you parked on an incline? If you are parked heading uphill, you might want to get another car behind you and give you a slight nudge forward and try to shift it out of park. If you are not parked on an incline, press the brake pedal and have someone check your brake lights, if you have no brake lights, it might have your gear shift locked. If no brake lights, check for a loose or faulty brake switch at the brake pedal, Good luck, Gary

My 2008 Chrysler Sebring shifter cable is broken how do I remove. The line out of the fire wall

That forum did not help at all. If it is a 2008 convertible I can show you how to take it out. First remove the radio bezel, then the console, then the shifter mechanism. At this point you can pull the shifter cable away from the mechanism. Now unplug the yellow connectors to the amp and then remove the 3 10mm nuts to the amp and remove the amp. Open the hood and take off the air filter assembly. Just one bolt and it pops off. Then pry up on the shifter cable end. If is probably already off as is why you are replacing it. There is a metal clip where the shifter cable attached to the mount. Stick a screwdriver under it and take it off. Do not lose it. Then just pry the shifter cable up from the mount. Pull it out from inside of the car. Takes about 20 minutes. Hardest part is the nuts to the amp. Good luck.

It wont go into reverse

This is a relatively common problem on these new Chryslre 300s.The failure is in the shifter assembly itself and it will need to be replaced. But for now, to limp around, you can actually still shift the car, you just cannot use the shifter. You will need to remove the center console and find where the shift linkage attaches to the shifter assembly. Remove the linkage and you can manually shift until you replace the shifter assembly. Here is how to remove the center console:

techmecho_5.gif

Apply the parking brake.Turn the ignition switch to the On position, apply the service brakes and place the gear selector lever into the Neutral position.Turn the ignition switch to the Off position and release the service brakes.Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.Remove the mat (2) from the cubby bin at the front of the floor console.Open the lid of the console rear bin and remove the mat (3) from the rear bin.Remove the two screws (1) that secure the front of the console shifter bezel to the console.Using a trim stick unsnap the console bezel from the console.Remove the shifter bezel from around the gear selector lever.

techmecho_6.gifRemove the three 8 mm bolts (2) from the rear bin that secure the console to the floor panel transmission tunnel.Remove the two screws (3) that secure the front of the console to the instrument panel.Slide the console rearward far enough to access and disconnect the jumper wire connector (4) from the accessory power outlet on the underside of the console.Remove the floor console from the vehicle.-------------- Thankyou.

Chrysler sebring is locked in park

Had this happen to me yesterday.  Remove the liner in the cup holder.  There is a hole that you can stick your finger in to push the gear release lever forward.  If that does not work, pull up the chrome bezel around the gear shift.  there is a pink piece of plastic attached to a spring, push that down and towards the rear of the car and you should be able to shift freely until you put it in park again.  Make sure the car is running and your foot is on the brake while trying either solution.

You have to remove the whole center console which is the hard part then everthing else is pretty straight forward.

  1. Remove console bezel.See: Center Console Bezel - Removal.
  2. Remove shift knob and shift bezel See: Console Shifter Bezel - Removal.
  3. Remove two screws (8) in the front of the console.
  4. Remove four screws (5) inside the console compartment.
  5. Disconnect console housing wire connector (5) and instrument panel connector (1).
  6. Pull parking brake (3) rearward.
  7. Remove center console (7) from vehicle

How can I remove plastic bezel around shifter so I can clean spilled coffee that may be in console under bezel?

Pretty easy, no tools required if you have strong nails :)

First open the center console lid.

Grab the back edge of the trim panel where it stops at the top of the console box and pull upward.
Work your way to the front disengaging the clips by lifting up.
When you get to the front, unhook the connector from the 12V outlet and the heated seats buttons (if equipped).
Set the trim panel aside

To remove the round trim around the shifter (likely not necessary)
Remove philips screw from shift knob and lift shift knob off shaft.
Lift round shift trim bezel off by disengaging 4 clasps located low at corners of bezel.
Disconnect illumination bulb from bezel and set bezel aside for cleaning

During install, make sure the shift trim is inserted into shaft so the indicator will line up.

My Chrysler Sebring won't shift out of park

there is a spring on the left side of the shifter which has probably broken off it a common problem with a no cost fix as long you can find the spring. the spring attachs to the black case of the shifter and the other end goes to a pink plastic pivot to the interlock. drill a small hole in the pink upper pivot to reattach the spring. your spring would have shot off toward the back of the car inside the console check at the carpet's edge.the spring has a green protective band and is about an inch long ---to get the console out 4-- 10mm bolts at rear inside the back console compartment and 2--10mm bolts behind the a/c controls. the a/c control bezel and the upper bezel do not have screws but push in place--top bezel pulls straight out while the lower has to be pulled down and out to remove

Car Won't Fully Shift into Park

You either have problem with the shifter assy, or the shifter cable has come out of adjustment.
If you remove the shifter bezel and center console you will be able to see the shifter cable. There will be a white or black lift tab on the cable. Release the tab and and place shifter in park. If it still does not go into park that means that you will need a shifter assy. If it goes into park with the tab released you push the tab back down with it still in park.

That should take care of your problem.
