N all probability the brake sensor on the pedal is starting to work erratically. This sensor sends a signal to the shifter gate, and the gate will not open unless the brake pedal is depressed. I had it happen to me, and the only solution until i replaced the sensor was to hit the brake over and over until the stop light worked. If the stop lights work, the shifter gate should allow the shifter to move out of park. This sensor/ switch is located about 3 inches above the brake pedal, and it is easily recognizable by the cable attached to it.

The P0573 codes is set when the stop light switch signal is too high.

1997 nissan pathfinder le 3.3l - Brake lights won't turn off - replaced stop switch and relay combo already. any ideas?

The brake switch will stop all current to the brake lights. As soon as the brake pedal moves just off of its fully up position, the switch makes contact and passes current on to the brake lights. You can operate it by hand to check if everything is right. izzit adjustable? The switch is the last thing in the path to the brake bulbs, so it has to work right, right off the brake pedal!

Trying to replace the stop light switch on a 1986 toyota 4runner

Move into a position where you can easily see underneath the driver's side of the Ford pickup's dashboard. How you do this depends on your physical size and dexterity.
2

Shine the flashlight on the brake pedal arm to illuminate the stop light switch and the stop light switch mounting bracket. Unplug the Ford pickup's brake light wiring harness from the switch by hand.

My break light swithes on sometimes without me even pressing the breaks. The break light also sometimes stays on even when I have taken my feet off the break. I have tried changed the break light switch...

Did you adjust the brake light switch correctly? To adjust the brake light switch, first press the brake pedal down a few inches, then pull the switch plunger rod out of the switch toward the brake pedal arm, as far as you can without using excessive force. Next, return the brake pedal to the pedal stop position against the pedal stop and pull the brake pedal toward the rear to push the brake light switch actuating plunger rod into the switch housing limited by the travel of the brake pedal arm rear travel stop position. This procedure automatically adjusts the brake light switch correctly.
If the brake lights still don't turn off with the brake pedal released, check the brake pedal arm for sticking or binding that is preventing the brake pedal arm from returning fully to the pedal stop when the brake is released.

My brake light is staying on, what is the problem?

Hello Mr Mixer.

When this happens it is usually a bad brake light switch mounted on the brake pedal lever.
Easy to replace if you are a handy fellow.

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Disconnect electrical connector for stop light switch.
  3. Remove bolt and lock nuts attaching brake pedal to stop light switch and push rod.
  4. Remove stop light switch and bushings from brake pedal.
  5. Reverse procedure to install.

There you are.
I hope your repair goes well.

Brake lights and turn signal stop working at the same time

If brake lights not working then its quite possible that the problem is .either the brake light fuse or the brake light switch. The brake light switch is causing the turn signal light to stop functioning.Check out both the brake light fuse and the brake light switch. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Brake lighs stop working

Does the 3rd brake lamp illuminate? If so then your problem is multifunction switch. If it doesn't do the following checks.
Check for power to and thru the brake lamp switch itself. If you do not have power to the switch check fuse no. 10(20 amp) in the interior fuse panel. If you have power to the switch then depress brake pedal and make sure you have power thru the switch. If this is ok the check Fuse 22(20amp) with brake applied..
