While earlier models use DextronII, 2003 they had switched to:
Toyota Type T, T-II or T-IV, for example Valvoline MaxLife ATF.
And the reason why there is such a huge difference between the new dry capacity and the capacity of just a change, is because when newly installed you need to fill the torque converter, but when you are just changing the fluid, there is no way to drain the torque converter usually. (sometime is will drain half way if the reed valve that is supposed to retain ATF is bad, but you will never drain all of the converter unless you remove it.) So you should refill based on what came out, and the level on the dipstick, when warm, with engine running ( so that the torque converter is filled to max).

Dextron transmission fluid. Get 4L and then check while ideling.There is a cold and hot level on the measuring stick..........It may be wize to get 2 extra liters and change the transmission filter at the same time.Hope this helps.
