This is a real common problem on caravan. But I haven't seen it on stratus. But it might be the same thing. When it won't start the gauge won't work at the same time? When it does this does slapping the side of the dash make the gauges work and then the car starts? Try this

FIX OIL LEAK.IF CAR BEEN A GOOD CAR RUNS GOOD.PLENTY OF POWER TRANSMISSION STILL SHIFTS GOOD .NOT SMOKING A LOT OR BURNING OIL.FIX OIL LEAK.YOU HAVE TO CHECK AROUND AND GET PRICE CHECKS.THE FRONT CRANK SEAL AND REAR CRANK OIL SEAL.WHICH TAKES A LEAST 4 HOURS LABOR EITHER WAY.I WOULD SAY AT LEAST $400.00 TO $500.00 THE DEALERSHIP WOULD CHARGE AT LEAST $800.00 TO $1000.00 OR MORE.BUT CHECK AROUND GET A PRICE CHECK.

it could be the computer although my experience has been that the computer would not let the car start at all. It almost sounds like the fuel pump dopping out after a short run. Have they checked the pump? You really should do a pressure check to see if the pump is dropping as soon as it gets pressure built up. If this helps please reply and good luck

Find a station that sells gas for small engines... it is non oxygenated (non E85) and try it again. These are usually the stations that sell only mid octaneg gas (like 89-90-91) and that is all they sell but a nickel cheaper than the low octane 87 at another station.
Their are less additives with it and it solves MANY car gas related problems. It;s a geat tip for those with old cars out there suffering from vaporlock, too.
Sometimes you can get carbon traces across the distributor or coil areas. A good wipe down with a good cleaning solvent can help this. IT's fairly common and in a newer car like yours I;d suspect something more superficial like this.
