Adding freon will be a temporary fix if you have a leak. Depending on how fast the leak is, it might only cool it for a day or two before it fails to cool. Replacing the evaporator coil under the dash would be very time consuming and costly, but is likely the only permanent fix.
If you add freon yourself, there are an awful lot of things you need to know and you ideally will have special pressure gages and also a way to measure how much freon by weight and refrigerant oil you are adding. I would not suggest you try to work on it without knowing more and having the proper equipment. The bottom line is it is going to cost a lot to fix.
Leaking freon into the atmosphere is *******. Just adding freon doesn't repair anything. When enough freon leaks the rear system will suffer. They are not seperate.
There is only one system, so your conclusion doesn't make sense. If the front evaporator is leaking, the whole system will lose charge, and the back will not be cooling. Your problem may actually be the front blend door. Recommend you get a second opinon. Evaporator replacement is much more than $300.

99% chance it is the blower resister located behind glove box. Squeeze glove box in and pull out.
The resistor is right behind it, dealer part cost less then $20.
Dodge has had this problem for over ten years and until recently did nothing. Now they combine fuse with resistor, suppose that will correct it?

misty check the water level in the radiato...if it is low the last thing to get any water is the heater core..if low you will need to find the reason...like a water pump or headgasket leaking

in my 2004 grand caravan it's behind the glove box and left of the blower motor. disconnect the wires first then remove the 2 screws to pull out the resistor unit. First make sure you have removed the negative of your batterie. I had the same pm that prevented the blower motor to operate in any speed. I hope this will help

these have lots of comon problem ie suspenion you have sway bar end link and sway bar bushing problems and the odd ball joint. engine 3.8L head gaskets, water pumps, coolant tubes rotting out, and poor radiators, trans problems lots too many to list. power window problems with switches and motors and window regulators. sory about all the bad news but if its really cheap buy it up. don't forget the cars market for private sales is really good if you are looking to buy right now. a van with 350-400km i wouldn't pay more than $1000 for it cert and etested.good luck
