Usually when a vehicle backfires, it is caused by the timing or a bad crank sensor. symtoms of a bad coolant sensor are--poor cold idle, stalling, ( rich mixture, retarded timing) slow idle speed, cold hesitation or stumble, and poor fuel milage. check coolant sensor first. good-luck!!

The first thing to check is the ignition timing then the spark plug gaps. There are specific settings/size for the above and must be correct for the car to run smoothly.

Engine service done on a navara d40 wont start turns over but wont start

Put all the old plugs back in first and try that. Have you gapped the new plugs correctly? New air filter might mean that your fuel air mixture is too lean now so again to check try it with the old (Dirty)filter. If it starts you will have to think about the misture settings.

Engine runs rough then cuts out

only two things goes wrong with cars...no fuel or no fire. sounds like your getting alittle of both so something is clogging fuel lines, injectors and filters.First, check the connectors to your battery making sure no corrodsion on terminals. You can usually use mixture of baking soda and water to dissovle it. recheck connectors, tighten if needed and wouldn't hurt to use anti-corrosive gel on them. Try Lucus tuneup in a bottle next. this will free up any gunk in fuel/gas lines..couldn't hurt will only help in the long run

Problems

This symptom can be the fuel pressure regulator...as the least costly...it can also be an indication of a worn or defective timing belt...inspect the fuel pressure regulator first. Hope this helps.

Hi, Ok you have confirmed that it's not a fuel problem. You need to check for spark. Pull the coil wire off of the coil(secondary lead-looks like a spark plug wire) Have some one crank it over and listen for a popping sound. IF yes, spark is at the coil, that means all ignition sensors are working. Next check for spark at ends of wires after cap. IF no replace cap and rotor. IF yes remove a couple spark plugs and check for fouling(wet, fuel etc...) IF yes replace or clean plugs and retest for starting. IF no spark is present at coil you need to scan computer and watch for rpm signal. IF no rpm signal, replace crankshaft sensor with OEM delco part. BIGGEST problem with these engines is Cap and Rotor burn out.

Turns over but wont start

first check fuel, then check to see if it is fireing at the spark plug. if it is fireing at plug, check to make sure it is getting fuel. ( should be able to smell fuel on the electrode end of spark pug). If it is getting fuel, and spark, you may try removeing all spark plugs, then shoot some oil into each spark plug hole. Replace plugs, and try to start. If it still wont try to start, may be out of time. Does it pop, backfire when you are cranking the engine?

My car wont start, its not battery, just had tune

Is it acting like its out of gas. Also is it turning over but not starting. are u getting spark from ur spark plugs. When it was tuned up did the shopmess up the firing order of the distributor especially its a newer car. it could be teh fuel pump, filter etc. if its one of those its usually back by the tank. Also to see if ur getting spark u can pull a spark plug out plug it into one of the wires and set the spark plug on part of the engine and have someone turn it over u will see spark out of the end of it if u dont then thats ur problem. also it may be a relay. Overall u will want a manual so it can be pinpointed better also run some codes on it if u know how to.

This could be a lot of things, fuel pump pressure not enough(new fuel pump)or spark plugs and air filter need to be replaced(flooded plugs and air filter stopping up)timing has jumped,or maybe a blocked fuel filter?
