Volkswagon sells their own antifreeze for use in the New Beetles. It's an extended life antifreeze, but may be slightly modified from the commonly available extended life antifreeze available in your auto parts store. You can always ask the counter rep at Autozone or O'Riely's if they would recdommend the standard extended life antifreeze.

I just bought a 2000 beetle turbo ,it has 70,000 miles on it the person which I bought it from has kept really good care of the car ,what should I consider doing to it maintance wise , since it just turned...

first thing on a turbo, do an oil change using full synthetic oil. If you can, plan on replacing plugs and plug wires, replace antifreeze, and check brake linings. VW Beetles are tough to work on (little room), and it would also be a good idea to check hoses and belts, cleaning the engine.

What kind of antifreeze should i use on a 2001 vw beetle?

Believe it or not you can use about any orange type you can find just about anywhere.
Prestone sells a good one.
I know the owners manual calls for a special type, that's B.S.
They only want to sell you VW additive products.

On my VW (2002) the light that indicates that the car is cold (Blue boat) is flashing red and it is 10 degrees. What does that mean?

When th car is cold, open the hood and check the coolant level.

If you have to add make sure you use the same pink antifreeze VW calls it G12, or no more than a cup or 2 of distilled water.
