Transmission and timing belt I have over 200,000 miles on my Mercedes 300E series. Should I change my chain timing belt immediately? Transmission is a little funky. Would changing the transmission oil help it longevity?

If it has a timing belt, the belt should have been replace at around 80,000 miles. So you are running on borrowed time.
If it has a chain, the chain and gears are designed to last the life of the engine, or around 200,000 miles.

The engine which is made by Mercedes is not belt driven, it has a timing chain, timing chains never need to be replaced unless they fail or the engine is being rebuilt.

You do not have a timing belt, you have a timing chain that should be good for 200,000 miles or more. Could be fuel filter, fuel pump, vacuum leak or a host of other things. If you are not getting a service engine soon light, it is robably not a sensor. Could also be a plugged catalitic converter.

chains are not like belts.... they are much tougher therefore last a hell of a lot longer...typically around 90,000 miles or more they should be looked at as they do eventually stretch and can jump time...they also have tensioners that can wear out causing the chain to jump a tooth, and a tell tale sign of this wear is indicated by noise coming from the timing chain case area.I have seen some 3.8 v/6 engines one in particular manufactured by Buick/Olds and installed in early CJ 5 Jeeps lasting over 200,000 miles...but sounding like a washing machine at idle from all the worn parts as well as some having a fiber type cam sprocket that wears out(used to help silence any gear slap noise)Hope this somewhat helps.

That is about 120, 000 miles, if you have not done already, you should change the timimg belt and while you are doing that it is a good idea to replace the water pump. You could change your transmission oil but not critical.

These vehicles actually have a timing chain, not timing belt.These chains obviously last much longer than belts.These last till about 200,000 miles, then you start experiencing chain tensioner slap, then it's time to replace that little puppy.I hope I could help.Get back to me with any questions.Thx.

The 2001 Saturn SL1 has a timing chain which shouldn't need maintenance for the life of the engine or 200,000 miles typically. hope this helps

hi, mercedes are good for 200,000 before you change transmission oil, hope this helps my E300 has done 350,000 and still changes fine as the oil is not a lubricant as such it lasts longer and does not lose it's viscosity, hope this helps you, thanks for useing fixya

The dealer recommends the timing belt be replaced at 60,000 miles if it is a rubber timing belt. Newer Sedona models have a metal chain timing belt that don't need to be replaced so soon.
